I had been following the Walk for Peace a couple of months before they walked through my town on Day 96. I got to see the Venerable Monks twice that day. I had been monitoring their live map so I could get to a place to greet them. The live map must have been stuck for a while because when I refreshed it, they were almost here. I jumped in my car and raced towards town. I got to the top of the exit ramp just as the Sherrif's department closed the road. I asked the officer for permission to get out of my car so I could greet them. As they silently walked by me, I bowed and burst into tears. I can't describe it. After they re-opened the road, I got back on the highway and went down to the next exit so I could park downtown and see them pass me again. It was so beautiful to be surrounded by so many people who were respectfully greeting them in silence! The first time they passed me at the top of the exit, I saw one of the Monks take a picture of me as I was bowing. He usually posts the pictures he takes nightly, so I searched his photos to see if he had posted the picture of me...he had not. I was a little sad, but it was OK because the moment was so moving. Yesterday, I think, was Day 111 and they boarded their bus to go back to Texas. I went to their page and started scrolling back through the photos just to re-live their journey. I was shocked! I found this picture of me receiving flowers from one of the Monks...I didn't see my picture being taken at this stop! Thank you, Venerable Monks! You brought some much-needed unity and hope where so many people are divided!
