This is the month where we see our national flag being raised everywhere. From highways, shopping malls to tall buildings. These flags are the symbol of our independence. The very reason why we are still standing strong today.

On this day 53 years ago (June 11th 1963), the Kennedy's administration ended the blockade made by Alabama's Governor George Wallace in order to prevent minorities from entering the University of Alabama, resulting in the university admitting 2 African-American student.
George Wallace is famous for his racist campaign catchphrase 'Segregation Now! Segregation Tomorrow! Segregation Forever!". What happens in the University of Alabama ended up becoming the catalyst to the eventual Martin Luther King Jr March in Washington DC two months later.
The result of the action taken by John F Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr can be seen few decades later with the election of Barack Obama as the President of the United States. Even though the United States still encounter racial related issues, they are better off right now than they were 53 years ago. Would the US be as strong as it is now if the Segregation movement won?
