Want to know more about the materials we design with?
At Memoir Design Studio we upcycle donated clothing from individuals who are no longer with us in this physical life.
We strive to celebrate their legacy and tell stories of extraordinary people while creating one-of-a-kind products to help inspire and connect us to our wardrobes.
If you have checked out The Chester Hat on our Etsy, you will see beautiful florals and feminine stripes, which once belonged to Frances Kiley Freyer.
Frances both fulfilled and defied the expectations for women of her generation. She married at age 20 and bore seven children over a decade. At the same time, she doggedly pursued her education, earning a bachelor's degree and then two master's degrees.
She went on to build a successful career as a teacher of children with learning disabilities at The Bronxville School in New York. Frances poured her heart into her teaching and yet still had room in it to love deeply and care for her children and Fred, to whom she was married for 67 years. She was independent, opinionated, funny and kind, and also cultured and exceedingly well-read.
An inspiration to us all, we love working with France’s and thinking about her strength, heart, and resilience.
