'From Heaven to Beyond' ~ It was very special to make this painting. Painting another artist, one so profound, became a great way to push my own work beyond my own limits. I wanted her art, which amplified her voice to transcend from Heaven.

Frida Kahlo is an inspiration to many women, as well as those with disabilities, and fellow artist everywhere.

This painting is from my Feminine Rising Series.

‘Feminine Rising’ explores the journey from childhood to womanhood, where I developed conditioned beliefs about identity, sexuality, God, and pain. I later realized many of my beliefs were false, shaped by the misinterpretation of others about what sexuality means in society. There were other beliefs I imposed on myself that were misunderstandings regarding God and the punishment of women. This is because of the extra burdens and threats women face simply because of their gender.

I have come to learn that a woman validating and loving herself is a threat to control and misogyny. The lies misogyny justifies bares ignorance, intemperance, and injustice while self-love negates these lies with authentic truth. We are all divine human beings with inherent value. Our value comes naturally and can never be diminished. Today I love myself.

These paintings and portraits represent liberation from these chains. The feminine should be celebrated, not condemned. Young and old, women and girls, all are beautiful inside and out. God loves us all.

Born Warrior

Lozen Chiricahua Apache Warrior and Prophet Portrait

Numerous times native tribes tried to make treaties with the emigrants who deceived their trust. Time revealed these individuals intended to conquer the land and its resources.

Lozen along with her tribe desired freedom. Freedom on a land they they rightfully own, lived on, and occupied for generations. In her time, few women were recognized as warriors.

She fought side by side some of the greatest names in American History. Her strength and gifts lead her tribe as far as it could.

Lozen inspired women and children who were frozen in fear to cross the surging Rio Grande while the band fled and fought American forces in Victorio’s War (1879–1881).

“I saw a magnificent woman on a beautiful horse—Lozen, sister of Victorio. Lozen the woman warrior!”

Though she passed away in confinement, her gifts and courage and legacy could never be confined.
