As with most characters, I've had my share of trials and tribulations, but like any good fairytale, this one has a happy ending. My mother is a seamstress and I grew up watching her design, cut, and sew in her messy little corner of the living room. She would always make my two sisters and I outfits, and I remember constantly sitting next to her filled with wonder and admiration for her passionate
work. It wasn’t long before I knew I had that same passion burning inside me, and that I wanted to be able to design my own clothes and bring them to life from scratch. What I didn’t know, is that it would be a long time before the vision would become a reality. Enough time that, much like Cinderella sat shut away, watching the world pass her by, I started to wonder if my dreams would ever come true. Then one day, four years ago, a trip to the States changed everything. I had flown to the big apple for a short vacation, and before I knew it, I met my Prince Charming. He followed me back to Italy, asked for my hand, and whisked me away on a white horse (airplane), to his castle (apartment), in his kingdom (Brooklyn). And it was in this wonderful place, with this wonderful man, that all the pieces of my fantasy suddenly started to fall into place. Moving to New York marked the beginning of a new and exciting journey, and not just on a personal level, but a professional one as well. I was in the fashion capital of the world after all, and I could smell the creativity in the air, igniting that flame within me once again. Living in the city was the sign I’d been waiting for to remind me not give up on my dreams and to do whatever possible to make them come true. The rest - designing school, sewing classes, my first job in the fashion industry - is history. Just when I thought things couldn't get any better, life had one more surprise in store for me, and this was by far the most incredible of all. In 2015 I gave birth to my daughter, Ludovica, who I affectionately call "Lu," and who is the last piece of the puzzle. Now, I am my mother- designing, cutting, and sewing in my messy little corner of the living room, serving in my turn as a role model to her. Lu is my daily inspiration; the reason I do what I do. She is the reason I am here starting this project that carries her name, sharing my happy ending with you- MamaLu.
