I finally got around to finishing this bag I made using leather I painted at a collage screen printing class at this past winter.

Here are some photos of my process. I screen printed the black paint part at the class using torn pieces of paper as my pattern. I added the pink paint splatters later at my studio, adheres bonded leather stays to stiffen the bag, then lined the interior with pink lambskin.

I highly recommend taking a class there. They are very affordable, all skill levels are welcome, and you’ll meet wonderful people while making art in an amazing atmosphere and historic NYC building.

It’s spring—a season of renewal 🌼—and time to reintroduce myself.

I’m Kathy Karadza, founder of Katerina NYC. I’m a native New Yorker with a background in costumes for Broadway and television. During that time, I began creating handbags from leftover costume materials.

Today, Katerina NYC creates accessories crafted primarily from deadstock leather and reclaimed materials sourced from fashion houses, giving new life to what might otherwise go to waste.

We’re also proud to be a small business partner with the nonprofit , using our work as a platform to help raise awareness and support for addiction recovery services.
