One of my most frequently asked questions is “where do you get your materials?” I never know what to say because the answer is “everywhere” and it has also taken me years of practice in knowing where to look. I thought it would be fun to show you a few of the things I’ve sourced lately and tell you where I found them! Thankfully nothing was a thousand bucks 😜 This haul was sourced from: a box lot from farmers market friend, the craft thrift store, regular thrift store, eBay, a Facebook group, a local fabric store and a Facebook marketplace score from an adorable old lady who decided that after 40+ years she’s probably not going to get around to recovering her chairs.

I know I promised you a post about my shop horror stories and it’s finally here! This new multi-caption feature makes it much easier to post this so scroll on through to hear about the craziest customer experiences I’ve had.

I used to sell a lot of girls skirts in fun kid prints. A dad brought his daughter into my booth and told her to pick out a skirt. She picked out one that was a kid fav: pink donuts! She was obsessed! The dad was horrified an kept trying to talk her out of it. He finally said, not quietly and totally exasperated to his three year old: “you want to wear that IN PUBLIC?!” 🤣

I used to make vintage spool hearts and they were very popular. As the name suggests, they are made from…you guessed it…vintage spools. I had a lady order one as a gift and was absolutely furious that the spools looked vintage and were used. I “ruined” the gift for her family member. 🫠

For a long time I made chaps/vest set for kids. I sold a lot of them on Etsy. Got a message one night from an adult who wanted chaps for…uh…adult purposes. And sent me photo examples and asked if I would make them. I kindly and quickly declined that request.

I had a customer after two and a half YEARS contact me and tell me she had just opened her order and it was defective. She was also insistent that she had bought “a lot” from me. Now I am pretty dang good about remembering customers names and even what they have bought but this lady was not ringing any bells. I looked it up and she had ordered one time. I gently explained to her that 2.5 years is far outside of even the most generous of return windows. She claimed the bow tie hardware was incorrect but sent a photo that was inconclusive. Even then I offered to replace with a different color hardware since the ones she had ordered were discontinued. She would cover return shipping since, you know, it’s 2.5 years later…well she absolutely lost it on me that I wouldn’t refund and sent me a whole slew of messages about how cruel I was and I didn’t understand what she had been through and how I was “laughing at her pain” There was no laughing involved I can assure you, and I continued to be kind and professional. I ended up having to b

A few of the things I’ve been making lately 🧵 I love the versatility of this skirt pattern, both because the style is great for so many body shapes and also because it’s the perfect palette for vintage textiles! The appliquéd skirt is made from a very old hand stitched coverlet that I think is probably 100 years old or more. The other skirt is the most buttery soft linen with vintage embroidery and the best news?! They have pockets! 🎉

I have been playing around with some new ideas and couldn’t get this one out of my head. A corset top/stays using beautiful vintage textiles! The quilt top is made from a 1940’s quilt and the blue top is made from a mid-1800’s handwoven bed covering with a barkcloth panel on the back. They will be coming with me to this Sunday!
