The Charlotte Firefighters Association, IAFF Local 660, mourns the passing of Representative Mike Clampitt — a dedicated public servant, a proud union member, and a steadfast advocate for firefighters across North Carolina.

Representative Clampitt never forgot where he came from. As a longtime union member and firefighter, he carried our values with him to Raleigh, consistently standing up for those who serve on the front lines. He understood the sacrifices firefighters make and worked tirelessly to ensure our voices were heard.

His legacy is one of service, integrity, and unwavering support for the fire service community. The impact he made will be felt for generations.

We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of working alongside him.

Rest easy, brother. We’ll take it from here.

53 years ago today, my Daddy, Monty Clampitt, bought N.C. Clampitt Hardware Co. from his Dad, Norman C. Clampitt.

I never had the chance to meet my grandfather, but I’ve been told my Daddy is just like him. Looking at this photo, I can see it—two men side by side, shaped by long days, hard work, and always doing things the right way.

I couldn’t be prouder of the life he built, the values he carried forward, and the love he continues to pour into this place and our community.

In the coming weeks, we’ll be giving our store a small refresh. Nothing inside is changing, but you may notice new signage going up. We will be officially replacing N.C. Clampitt Hardware Co. with Clampitt Old Store.

Many people have asked about the history behind our name. “N.C. Clampitt” stood for my grandfather, Norman Cornelius Clampitt, who founded the business. Years later, after my dad expanded our operation down the street, the original location naturally became known as “The Old Store”—a name used by employees, owners, and locals alike.

Now that we are no longer affiliated with ACE and operate solely from our original location, we felt it was fitting to officially carry forward the name that has always been part of our story.

We’re proud of our history, grateful for our community, and excited to continue serving Swain County as Clampitt Old Store.
