Today's topic is starch. I love starch and I use it all the time. Before I cut my fabric I starch a small area, depending how much I'm going to use.
I cut my pieces and finger press the seam open. Then I dry iron the seam and finally spray starch and press both sides. The piece is measured and trimmed.
I will follow this procedure after every piece. Yes, I'm a little compulsive, but I like the end results. I find my seams fit better and block lays flatter.
There are starches made for quilters, such as best press. I use so much it could get pricey. I mix my own. I buy a concentrated starch and mix it 50/50.
I love my wool mat, but it gets very stiff from all the starch. During the summer, I soak it in the bathtub to remove starch. I then place it outside to dry. Make sure it is throughly dry.
Do you use starch on your blocks?
