A little bit of back story with this Chambray Field Denim Shirt.
My earliest memories take place in my grandfather’s bonsai nursery.
As a kid, I didn’t pay attention to what he was wearing. I was focused on hauling water, pulling weeds, and watching him shape branches that had taken decades to grow.
But looking back, I remember he always wore the same chambray button-down.
It wasn’t pristine. The shoulders were sun-bleached from long days outside, and the fabric was worn soft. He didn’t treat that shirt as anything precious. To him, it was just another tool in the nursery… something to be used, washed, and put back to work without a second thought.
Years later, I went looking for a shirt exactly like that. I wanted something I could wear in my own garden. Something simple enough that if my husband wore it to a meeting on Tuesday, I could steal it on Wednesday to split wood or take down to the lake.
Every chambray I tried missed the mark. They were either too delicate for actual use or built like stiff, heavy workwear I couldn’t move comfortably in.
So, Luke and I made our own.
We went through prototype after prototype. We adjusted the fit, tweaked the collar, tested fabrics, and wore each version until we found the flaws.
Eventually, one version ended up living permanently on the hook by the mudroom door. It became the only shirt I reached for, whether I was having coffee in the morning, running the shop, or sitting around a fire at night.
That’s when we knew we had it right.
The Chambray Field Shirt was designed to be the one you grab without thinking - a shirt that simply does its job, day after day.
Just like my grandfather’s.
