Every collector/curator has a bucket list, things they hope to find one day! Mine was a Codd Neck bottle! I had a text from a Burnsville native asking if I would be interested in a small bottle collection and other things. I ran by, never expecting to find my unicorn bottle.... but there it was. Codd-neck bottles, invented by Hiram Codd in 1879, were a revolutionary design for carbonated beverages. They featured a unique internal glass marble that, when pressed, sealed the bottle, preventing premature opening and preserving carbonation. The internal pressure of the bottle forced the marble up against the red gasket inside the bottle and sealed it, there is a seperate chamber inside the neck that the marble drops into freeing up the opening for drinking! You never know what treasures lie in the box in the shed right here in Burnsville NC! Special Thank you to the gentleman that allowed me to buy it! It will be another oddity my kids will try to figure out one day! If you have any vintage/ antiques or junk you are wanting to sell keep us in Mind!
