If you are looking for a lesson on local Butler County, PA history I found your “history book”. This is an original 126 year old Butler County Centennial Souvenir book, that celebrated the 100th anniversary of Butler County, Pennsylvania in 1900.

This original souvenir book details the people, places and things that established Butler County in its first 100 years. This book was sponsored by the Butler County National Bank (1890-1948) with an intricate, late-Victorian style illustration cover that goes on to highlight the county’s defining economic engines at the turn of the 20th century, from oil to agriculture.

It serves as an amazing detailed record of Butler’s transition from early frontier settlement to an industrial center by the turn of the 20th century. From the formation in 1800 from Allegheny County and its naming after Revolutionary War General Richard Butler to the Oil Industry. Local Industries of grist mills, distilleries, woolen mills, and tanneries to our Agriculture with accounts of the pioneer families who established the county’s prosperous agricultural foundations. Much of the information was detailed through interviews with prominent families and trailblazers of the area during the 1800-1900’s…almost a first hand account of what made Butler…Butler.
