I crazy glue my splices so they never slip to one side and bend. No one does this, and splices have been known to do this.

Just dropped my clippers that have magnetized. I’m pretty sure I’m the only workroom that takes the time to file their weight bars so they don’t cut through a shade. Most workrooms just masking tape them. So ugly.

An absolutely serene spot in the Hamptons. All of the side hems on the returns for the draperies and the side hems on the Roman’s are hand sewn as usual. When you’re sitting outside looking into the house you can’t see any stitch in the back.

I mean it just doesn’t get better, and I had nothing to do with it. This broke all my rules and my favorite designer on earth just knows what to do. Unlined, topstitched and only 2X fullnes. I did knock this out of the park. I wish I took a closeup of the stitching and every beautiful corner. It’s honestly magnificent,the goods were like a sweater and I still used a small stitch. It’s not stretched out even though it was top stitched. If you lookedk at the pattern it’s matched throughout. This looks great only because the designer knows what she’s doing and I’m absolutely amazing at what I do. This could have looked like a bad p**n room.

This fabric is so 70’s it’s like a sweater quilt. I wish I took a closeup image of the stitching. The whole thing is topstitched to give it a beachy vibe. It’s only 2X fullness but the weight of the goods gives it a decent volume. That’s unlined! I should have taken some closeups.

Riddle me this Batman, if you’re given 120” goods with a crease down the center that won’t come out with pressing with steam and discover that when you spray water on said goods they shrink about a quarter of an inch for about a foot and a half, how can you guarantee a length. Steamers spit water, if water shrinks the fabric then the length is inaccurate. S**t if I can sew a circle in fabric, I know what I’m doing. The goods are the problem, not me.

I cut the hardware for those arched windows with a scroll saw then sanded and painted them. The goods were very thick. In order to fit all of that fabric into the arch, I surged the edge and made a ticking strip from thin sateen lining. The side hems are hand sewn and the rings are sewn with cotton thread 3x, not heavy nylon 1x with glued knots. You can’t see the stitch. Not one of these arches was the same and yet every shade fit seamlessly.

Arch detail on a Roman shade. The heavy silk is surged with the lining and buried in a sateen lining tacking strip. The hand cut hardware is painted.

It’s been a while since I sewed tassel trim to a lead. Like a bunch of bouncing cheerleaders in sync. Trim is sewn not glued and both hems and returns are hand sewn. Because this client is a kind person I threw in hems and returns. It pays to be a good person.
