Walnut Farm Designs Store open on Fridays, 9am - 8pm, unless posted here otherwise. We are also open by appt. Welcome! I am enjoying living my dream.....a simple country life.

I grew up on a dairy farm in rural Pennsylvania and love simple, country life. I have always been creative and as a child I learned to crochet from my grandmother for whom it was a lifelong passion. After our family moved back to central Pa and onto a historic little farm, Walnut Farm Designs was born. The Lord has blessed me with more than I could have imagined by giving me a little business out of what I enjoy. We raise Blue Faced Leicester sheep and I look forward to being able to sell their excellent wool. These animals provide us with wonderful fiber and lots of entertainment. I love working with the colors of fibers and spinning yarn. There is always something new to try and enjoy creating here at Walnut Farm Designs! Our products are available online at our Etsy store, Walnut Farm Designs at www.etsy.com/shop/walnutfarmdesigns

Have you seen the Spin Twin Thread Oracle? It's like a diz with teeny holes, or a button with teeny holes to control the amount of wool that goes through the hole to create consistent yarn. It isn't for sale yet, but there is a youtube video about it. Just look up Spin Twin Thread Oracle on Life in Walnut Hollow's channel. I would be interested in trying it. I usually do a decent enough job, but my last spun top, I was in a hurry to cast on, so sometimes I knit and spin the yarn as needed. So, I needed a little more yarn and I got a little carried away with how thin I spun it when I spun the extra yarn. It was noticeably thinner, and I can see it, but most people won't notice it unless I point it out, and then you can definitely see it. I think a 'diz' on my drafting space at my fingers might be annoying, but I would be interested in trying it! I'd share the link, but Facebook is not allowing me to share more than 2 links a month unless I pay. I think limiting the ability to share information easily is not the right move for Facebook. It hampers the quick and easy sharing of information, which is why we use Facebook. The Thread Oracle is not available for sale yet. I think I saw that it would be available in January. I'd have posted a picture of it, but there is no website for it, and only the youtube video, which I can't share the link to!

A few fun things just listed as we think ahead for Christmas projects. I've had these heat bondable Angelina fibers in the store, but never got them listed online, and I added some gold and silver stellina as well. Aren't these little snack cake Christmas tree needle stoppers too cute? I just remembered that I had them and didn't have them listed!

This Zwartbles wool with bronze glitter is so pretty! The blend is called Reindeer P**p! It is even prettier in person. The bronze sparkles are subtle and perfect and I'm currently working on knitting a brown gingerbread sweater for Christmas and I kinda wish it was spun in this because that subtle sparkle is perfect with the natural brown! I love sparkly everything at the holidays and through the winter. I have 2lbs of this in stock. The cellphone video lightens the color a little.

The Carnegie Natural History Museum had this display of natural fibers. I didn’t realize that Ramie leaves are edible! Putnam Hill nursery that is always at Md Sheep and Wool had Ramie plants and I had purchased 2 the other year. Sadly, I was too stressed and busy to do anything with them. I would have liked to know that the leaves were edible! If they have the plants again, maybe I will try growing them again, or start them from seed myself. I got to a 3rd yarn store today, Yarn Bits and Bobs and got this lace mohair yarn with tiny sequins! They had a sweater sample that was colorful with the tiny twinkles of the teeny sequins!!! I always appreciate art depicting spinning, weaving or knitting, so this artwork at the Frick art museum caught my eye. I also enjoyed the Phipps Conservatory today!

To Pittsburgh, to Pittsburgh we went! I got to stop in to Moon and Yarn Craft Room and Wild Child Stitches! I loved the yarn selection at Moon and Yarn, and they had the right color of brown yarn I needed for my next project that I was having a hard time finding. We enjoyed the Carnegie museums while my daughter was in a math conference.

You don't usually see lovely natural gray Wensleydale combed top! It isn't available every year because it takes a few years to collect enough to process from small farms. It is nice and soft. I think this combed top feels softer than the average 33-35 micron count that Wensleydale has. The staple length is only 4-5", which I was surprised at, since Wensleydale is a prized long wool, but that makes it easy to spin and blend with other fibers. I have 2 other natural blends I just listed as well! https://walnutfarmdesigns.etsy.com/listing/4601245903/wensleydale-wool-natural-gray-long-wool

Candy corn ghost silicon needle stoppers just listed! I have had these and been too busy savoring the end of summer and fall to remember I had them and get them listed! I had the little smiley pumpkins too! Too cute! I do love these nice big, fun needle point stoppers. Easier on my fingers and they don't roll away like the little pointy, cone shaped ones we had! Plus......so cute!
