💛 What 52 Years Has Taught Me About Women
This year, Fashion Crossroads celebrated 52 years in business.
When you've spent that many years helping women get dressed, you learn a few things.
Not just about clothing.
About women.
The first thing I've learned is that all women want to feel beautiful, regardless of their age.
I've helped women in their twenties shop for first jobs and women in their eighties shop for anniversaries, weddings, and special occasions. The desire to feel beautiful never goes away.
And when a woman feels pulled together, something changes. She stands a little taller. She smiles a little bigger. She carries herself differently.
I've also learned that women doubt themselves far too much.
Over the years, I've watched one friend talk another out of a purchase because it wasn't the friend's style. The times that broke my heart were when I could tell a woman loved how she looked, but she trusted someone else's opinion more than her own.
I've learned that a new outfit can sometimes bring a new outlook.
I've watched women walk into the store carrying the weight of a difficult day and leave smiling, standing straighter, and feeling a little more like themselves again.
And despite what some people think, women are incredibly practical.
A customer told me just today, "I don't usually spend this much, but I really like this. And honestly, it's about what I spend when I go out to eat. The difference is that after dinner, the money is gone. This lets me enjoy it again and again."
I thought that was a pretty wise observation.
One final thing I've learned?
Women don't necessarily wear clothes until they wear out. Sometimes they wear them until they've told the story they wanted to tell. We grow. We change. We enter new seasons. And sometimes we need our wardrobes to grow and change with us.
After 52 years, I'm grateful that helping women find confidence, beauty, and joy in what they wear is still part of my story.
And perhaps that's because, at the end of the day, this business has never really been about clothes.
It's always been about women. 💛
