🐑🤍 Have you ever wondered why lambs are so often pictured alongside Jesus or Scripture?
There’s actually such a beautiful and powerful meaning behind it.
Throughout the Old Testament, lambs were used as sacrifices for sin. They weren’t just any lambs, either. God instructed His people to bring animals that were without blemish or defect, spotless, innocent, and pure.
These sacrifices were a reminder of the seriousness of sin and the need for atonement.
But they were also pointing toward something much greater. ❤️
Jesus.
When John the Baptist saw Jesus, he declared:
“Behold, the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.” — John 1:29 (KJV)
Jesus is called the Lamb of God because He became the ultimate sacrifice.
Unlike the animal sacrifices that had to be offered again and again, Jesus gave His life once and for all.
He was perfect. Without blemish. Without sin.
And yet, He willingly took upon Himself the punishment for sins He never committed.
The innocent died for the guilty. The spotless Lamb gave His life for us. 🤍
And what’s even more beautiful is how this picture of Jesus as the Lamb is woven throughout Scripture.
🐑 Exodus 12:5 — The Passover lamb was to be without blemish.
🐑 Isaiah 53:7 — The coming Savior was described as a lamb led to slaughter.
🐑 John 1:29 — Jesus is proclaimed the Lamb of God.
🐑 1 Peter 1:18–19 — We are redeemed through the precious blood of Christ, like a lamb without blemish or spot.
🐑 Revelation 5:12 — All of heaven declares that the Lamb who was slain is worthy!
In fact, the book of Revelation refers to Jesus as the Lamb more than two dozen times.
From the Passover in Exodus to the worship around God’s throne in Revelation, the message is woven so beautifully throughout the Bible.
Jesus is the Lamb of God. Our perfect sacrifice. Our Redeemer. Our Savior.
So the next time you see a sweet little lamb beside a Bible verse, I hope you’re reminded that it’s so much more than a pretty picture.
It’s a reminder of just how deeply you are loved. 🤍
“For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us.” — 1 Corinthians 5:7 (KJV)
