here, it’s texture.

the gathered puff sleeve top has soft shape through the sleeve, while the cotton eyelet skirt brings movement + detail underneath.

a little front tuck keeps the outfit from losing its shape, and suddenly two white pieces don’t look plain at all.

this skirt is still one of those pieces i’d much rather have you try on than judge from the hanger.

it changes when it moves.

wide-leg pants aren’t supposed to fit like straight-leg pants.

seems obvious — until you’re standing in a fitting room wondering if there’s “too much” fabric around your legs.

the volume is the point.

our black + white striped pair has a full-length wide leg with some stretch, so they’re meant to move away from the body rather than hug it.

the trick is paying attention to the whole outfit.

with a fuller bottom, a front tuck or a top that gives you some shape can help balance the proportion.

don’t judge them hanging on the rack.

pants like these need a body in them.

here’s exhibit a for why we try things on.

on the hanger, this dress can look like a whole lot of fabric.

on a body, the tie creates the waist, the kimono sleeve gives it movement and suddenly you understand what it’s supposed to do.

beige keeps it soft and earthy. black gives the exact same dress a little more drama.

same dress. completely different feeling.

there’s something pretty great about starting with a blank slate and watching everyone make it completely their own. 🤎

this is one i’d rather explain than let you judge from the hanger.

our boxy linen top is intentionally oversized, cropped at the waist and made from 100% linen. that shorter length is exactly what makes it work with fuller pants and relaxed bottoms without creating a whole lot of extra fabric through the middle.

black, latte or alpaca — same shape, three very different directions.

if you’ve ever said, “that would never work on me,” this is one i’d try before deciding.

here’s your reminder that transitioning toward fall does not mean everything has to turn brown. 😉

our purple u-neck bodysuit gives the washed bleach denim an unexpected pop of color, then the white tiered top softens everything when you wear it open as a layer.

the fitted bodysuit underneath is what makes the proportions work—the denim gets to stay relaxed and the oversized top gets to stay easy without everything feeling oversized at once.

grey bulldogs sweatshirt + red wide-leg capris.

you really don’t have to make this harder than it needs to be.

the sweatshirt fits true to size and the capris are a lightweight cotton stretch, which is a pretty good combination when you’re dressing for football season in georgia and actual sweatshirt weather hasn’t necessarily gotten the invitation.

sometimes fall starts with a color combination.

sage + rust.

that’s it. that’s the post. 😂

okay, almost.

we started with the fitted rust bodysuit + washed bleach wide leg denim, then added the sage button front tiered top open as a relaxed layer.

the fitted base keeps the oversized top from feeling like too much fabric, while those earthy colors give us all the fall feeling without requiring actual fall weather.

and that is a compromise we can live with.

not everything on this rack needs a football attached to it.

our oversized black + white striped top with the black cotton barrel pants is just an easy, comfortable outfit.

both pieces have some stretch.

both have relaxed shapes.

and both are made in the usa.

add a little front tuck if you want more shape through the waist or leave the top loose and let it be easy.

sometimes getting dressed really doesn’t need to be more complicated than that.
