Did you know that we have several truly unscented soap options… and that Simplici’s scented varieties are scented with pure essential oils extracted from plants? (Yeah, I’m allergic to synthetic“fragrance” oils … you may be too!)
Simplici natural bar soap is available on Amazon, Etsy, eBay, Faire and Simplici.com

A 2025 narrative review published in Frontiers in Toxicology analyzing 20 years of research confirmed that synthetic fragrances in shampoos, lotions, candles, cleaning products, laundry detergents, and even products labeled "unscented" are linked to a broad spectrum of health problems including respiratory disease, hormone disruption, neurological effects, skin disorders, cardiovascular issues, and increased cancer risk. The key chemicals of concern are phthalates, which allow scents to linger and are confirmed endocrine disruptors interfering with fertility and hormonal balance, and synthetic musks and parabens, which accumulate in body tissue over time. A substantial portion of adults report adverse physical reactions to fragranced products, and the CDC has formally acknowledged fragrance sensitivity as a legitimate occupational and indoor health issue.
The most alarming aspect is a legal loophole that makes the problem nearly impossible to avoid. Under the Fair Packaging and Labeling Act, fragrance formulas are classified as trade secrets, allowing manufacturers to list only the single word "Fragrance" or "Parfum" on labels while concealing mixtures of potentially hundreds of individual chemicals that consumers cannot identify or research. Even products marketed as natural or unscented can legally contain synthetic masking agents. Regulatory reform campaigns in the US and EU are calling for mandatory full ingredient disclosure.
