Support local businesses
As a Lakota Business owner I want to help the next person as much as others have helped me. It's hard coming from poverty wanting to do better for yourself and your family with little to no resources. I started Lakota Made with 30.00 and things I already with recipes i had already been using, with knowledge handed down to me. I didn't know anything about business or what to do. I did my best until I knew better and then I did better. Is it perfect?? Absolutely not, but what it is is authentic. I fail, I try again, I learn I listen to others, and I always try again. Sometimes the stress gets to me but no matter what I remember where I come from and how hard it was BEFORE and look at where I am now, and keep going to make it to the next goal.
As Indigenous business owners, we have powerful stories to tell and unique products to share. Social media is an incredible tool to reach our people, educate, and grow our businesses in a way that aligns with our values:
🌿 Lead with Your Story – Our businesses are more than just products; they carry our traditions, values, and teachings. Share your journey, your why, and how your work gives back to the community.
📸 Showcase Your Work with Intention – High-quality images and videos help your products stand out. Show them in use, explain their purpose, and highlight the cultural knowledge behind them.
💬 Engage with Your Audience – Social media is about building relationships. Reply to comments, ask questions, and connect with your community in a meaningful way.
🎥 Utilize Video & Reels – Short videos showcasing your process, traditional methods, or behind-the-scenes moments bring people into your world and boost engagement.
🤝 Lift Up Other Indigenous Businesses – Collaboration over competition! Share and support fellow Indigenous entrepreneurs to strengthen our networks and visibility.
✨ Encourage Word-of-Mouth & UGC – Invite customers to share their experiences, tag your business, and leave reviews. Our communities thrive on trust and storytelling—let your customers help spread the word.
📢 Call to Action with Purpose – Whether it’s “Support Indigenous-made,” “Shop Native-owned,” or “Follow for more teachings,” make sure to guide your audience on what to do next!
Our voices, our businesses, and our cultures deserve space online. Let’s make sure our presence is seen, felt, and supported!
