“It means leaving things better than you found them – thinking about the future and how you want it to look, and not taking anything away from that future. There are different aspects of sustainability, but environmental sustainability requires that you think about what you use from cradle to grave” For our second of four originals this spring, we spoke with senior Ruth Moffatt about the process of merging her passions for environmentalism and visual art. Check out the Q&A at:

Ruth Moffatt is a senior at UNC-Chapel Hill from Winston-Salem, NC, majoring in Studio Art and minoring in Environmental Science. Her process of experimentation, as both an artist and an environmentalist, sheds light on how others can begin to change their personal habits in order to live more susta

Embodying the idea of sustainability can be difficult, as at times it can interweave with lower profit, less uniformity, and a bit more time and effort to deal with. But that’s what we have to do if we want to be serious about it. We can’t just be as ‘sustainable as possible’ until it interferes with profit and the image of our product; sacrifices have to happen and a deep embodiment then occurs that really establishes true sustainability.” For our first original of the Finding Harmony series, we sat down with senior and future Venture For America Fellow Alessandro Uribe-Rheinbolt to hear about his passion for environmentalism and entrepreneurship. Read more about his commitment to sustainability and change by checking out this link:

Alessandro Uribe-Rheinbolt is a senior Anthropology major from Bogotá, Colombia. As a passionate environmentalist and entrepreneur, the future Venture For America Fellow has translated his lived experiences into values that drive him to reform consumer culture and promote environmentally sustainabl...

For those of us at VB, the past few weeks have been very trying. As a student-run venture, much of our success comes from collaborating with all of you. Though this semester has come with several unexpected bumps in the road, we’ve used this time to reflect on how to best move forward and contribute to our community.

Amid all the uncertainty that lies ahead, our commitment to reshaping the way we contend with the environmental crisis remains true. Over the next few weeks, we will be using our platform on Originals to tell the stories of Alessandro Uribe-Rheinbolt ‘20, Ruth Moffatt ‘20, Carmen Gonzalez, and the Meantime Coffee Shop. Through these, we hope to shed light on the strength, creativity, and persistence of Carolina leaders in the environmental and social sustainability movement.

At the beginning of the semester, we set out to find harmony between one another and the places we cherish. Though we find ourselves in very different times, far away from many of the people and places we love, we hope that these accounts will spark some inspiration and hope for what comes next.

Stay tuned during the following days!

"For so long, the environmental movement has overwhelmingly focused on numbers and statistics, which are still failing to convince people of the urgent and sweeping action needed to save our home planet. Just as we have used our clothing lines, events and stories to call attention to certain cultural and social dynamics, it is time to use our passion for creative empowerment to reshape the way we contend with the environmental crisis and energize our generation into action."

We are excited to announce our Spring 2020 creative vision – VB Harmony. Stay tuned as we continue to roll out our projects throughout the semester and check out the full statement below!

“What I'm really interested in doing is making everything as live as possible by using a video synthesizer, in which the video waves are being generated in real time. They’re being created the moment that they're being shown. With a live camera, the live feed is like you're looking into a mirror with the analog filter on it. And that's a really big part of it to me: how do you make electronic music feel alive? How can you use visuals to support that?”

Meet Nicholas Edward Byrne, a recent graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill who embodies what it means to be a creative leader. Originally from Athens, Georgia, the photographer, designer, and musical artist wholeheartedly dedicated his college years to exploring and deepening his understanding of multidisciplinary art and media.

Through his experimental music brand, Office Hours, Nicholas Byrne has left his mark in Chapel Hill as a modern-day master of ceremony (MC) — a musical and event visionary who has empowered himself and an entire community of students to embrace creative, free expression.

“Chapel Thrill Escapes epitomizes the potential success that can arise from combining intentional risk-taking with the support of a creative, passionate team. Vintage Blue, as its own creative outlet, shares in many of their team’s core values. We are connected by our desire to engage with the Carolina community and to reimagine how to share these passions. And, the motivation to impact UNC in unforeseen ways rests at the heart of both organizations.”

“If you have an area of interest that you can’t explore in UNC’s atmosphere, I think it’s incredibly valuable to go out and find it, or create it yourself, and absorb as much as you can.” For our second Original of the year, “D.I.Y.” we spoke with Carly Edwards about her experience co-founding Carolina Thrift and her tirelessly innovative spirit.

Check it out:

Carlyann (Carly) Edwards is a senior at UNC-Chapel Hill from Charleston, SC, majoring in Business Journalism, and minoring in Music and Sustainability. Throughout her time at Carolina, Edwards has paired her adoration for the environment with a tirelessly creative spirit. As VB begins to map out our

Over the following weeks, we will be dropping stories about current creative leaders who have left a lasting mark on Carolina and on Vintage Blue. The Originals page on our website will shed light on the inspiring paths of innovators, thrill-seekers, and creators, including Pavani Peri ‘20, Carly Edwards ‘20, Nicholas Byrne ‘19, the Chapel Thrill Escape Team, and Tai Huynh ‘20. Their stories of collaboration and growth have inspired our product collections, and each of these original thinkers has enabled VB to reflect on what we hope to achieve and who we hope to become. Check out our first story on Pavani Peri here:

Pavani Peri is a senior linguistics and peace, war, and defense double major from Indianapolis, Indiana. She is an embodiment of Vintage Blue’s core values: thoughtful innovation, creative expression and honest storytelling, and we look to her creativity and her drive as a source of inspiration.
