This question comes up a lot: “why are your socks not 100% wool?” And the answer may surprise you.

Believe it or not, alpaca wool fabric is silky. Very silky. It doesn’t like to bond together, struggles to keep its shape and isn’t highly durable on its own.

Enter synthetic fibers (think microfiber, nylon, spandex). Nearly all manufacturers of alpaca wool socks (including the big ones like pacas) use these to reinforce shape, elasticity and durability. They strengthen alpaca wool for easier and longer wear, without compromising alpaca wool’s natural moisture-wicking, ultra-soft and super warm qualities.

Unfortunately, synthetic materials are not biodegradable like alpaca wool. We continue to research alternatives that provide a superior sock performance in a more environmentally-friendly way.

We remain committed to keeping our footprint as low as possible by making socks to order and keeping our operations small.

Fall is here and our socks are ready to shine even brighter! Did you know alpaca wool is warmer than sheep wool? There's a few reasons for this:

🧦 Hollow Fibers: Alpaca fiber has a hollow core (or semi-hollow), which traps heat more effectively than the more solid fibers of merino wool.
🔥 Superior Insulation: The hollow structure allows alpaca to provide better insulation, leading to greater warmth in cold weather and better cooling in warm weather.
💧 Less Moisture Absorbent: Alpaca absorbs less water than merino, which helps it retain its insulating properties and dry faster in wet conditions, contributing to its overall warmth.
