Hi Friends, I want to say thank you so much, from the bottom of my heart, for all the love and your donations (Earthquake Relief) to Colombia 🇨🇴, our home country 🧑‍🍳. I’m with Luisa Pino

She’s the treasurer of my foundation, By Immigrant Hands Nonprofit. And Luisa is also from (Colombia).
We are going to be in Chocó together next week.
Luisa: We are so excited. We’re going to Nóvita, a small region in the south, very close to the epicenter of the tragedy. (7.4 Earthquake Colombia)
Yes, we’re going to build an oven, an artisan oven that does not need electricity to function. 🥖
Also, we’re going to train locals to make the bread with their own supplies there, alleviating all the stress and issues when you are so far away from the area.
So that’s the same thing that Manolo did when he went to Ukraine. 🇺🇦 And we’re bringing all that experience from Ukraine to this tragedy as well. So thank you. Thank you again. And we love you.
Manolo: And from there, I am going to go to other affected cities myself: Pereira and Manizales. In Manizales, we will be working with kids and local bakeries. We are going to be teaching them how to make bread. And we also keep celebrating Birthdays with the Cake Project and Baker for a Day.

250 Years of America for People Like Me. An Open Letter to America. By Manolo Betancur. Photo: Andy McMillan. 🇺🇸

As an American citizen who believes that we must stop our nation's division. As a person who believes that both parties are important in order to keep democracy alive. And as an immigrant in this beautiful nation. I feel I need to share what we experience in our daily lives.

We all agree that we need safe borders, and we all agree that we don't want criminals on the streets. However, family separation is wrong, taking parents away from their kids is wrong, and disrespecting the Constitution is the beginning of the decline of any civil society.

As an American citizen

I wish I could celebrate these 250 years like you. I wish I could feel that I can believe in the due process. But daily, people like me are detained without warrants.

I wish I could believe it's safe to drive around. But daily, people like me are pulled over based on their skin color.

I wish I could feel I can, I believe I have freedom of speech. But daily, people like me are taken away because of their accent.

I wish I could feel that I can believe in having the same rights under the Constitution. But daily, people like me have fewer rights based on their place of birth.

I wish I could feel welcome in this nation I love. But daily, people like me are taking away from their wives and kids.

I wish I could believe that I can believe in the president. But daily, people like me, who are not the worst, die in jails.

I wish I could believe that I can believe in Congress. But daily, people like me are less represented by them.

I wish I could feel that I can believe in the fairness of justice. But daily, people like me are taken to jails before they face the judge.

Finally, I wish I could keep believing in the pledge to the flag.
One Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

🧑‍🍳 And, we’re also looking for a bakery 🥖🇻🇪 in Venezuela that we can partner with to help our brothers and sisters there.
After 24 hours, rescue teams are searching for survivors after the worst earthquakes in decades. Authorities said the back-to-back quakes left at least 188 dead and more than 1,500 injured. Residents of the port city of La Guaira estimated that hundreds of people were trapped under the rubble.
