There’s a Tik Tok challenge that moms are doing with their sons and I couldn’t wait to do it with Dale. They say you remember the first time you do a thing, but not the last time. I remember the first time I held Dale, but not the last time. Well Saturday, December 13th is the last time I held my big baby. 😭

July is Disability Pride Month!!!

Disability Pride Month is deeply personal for me. Because when Dale received his ADHD diagnosis, I didn’t just become a mom with a plan. I became an advocate with a mission.

That mission became Different Is The New Cool. It became our book, Stop The Stare, Start The Conversation; A Guide To Inclusion. And it became a movement we’re proud to lead — not just this month, but every day.

💡 Here are 3 ways YOU can celebrate Disability Pride Month:

Educate: Read inclusive books and share them with your community.

Advocate: Use your voice to push for more accessible, inclusive spaces.

Celebrate: Uplift and honor the voices and victories of people with disabilities.

Inclusion is not a trend — it’s a lifestyle. Let’s be proud. Let’s be loud. Let’s keep moving forward.

Some moments leave a lasting impact, and for us at Different is the New Cool!, the Inclusion Fest Fashion Show hosted by the extraordinary Kelly Melerine and I’m Possible is one of those unforgettable moments.

When Kelly reached out and asked us to open the show, our first reaction was excitement... quickly followed by nerves. Could we rise to the occasion? Could we set the tone for an event that means so much? But hey, inclusion begins with embracing the challenge—so we accepted. And WOW, are we glad we did!

The runway came alive with confidence, courage, and individuality as everyone rocked their different flawlessly! Every model brought their unique spark, reminding us that inclusion isn’t just a concept—it’s a celebration. It’s always a joy to gather with others who share our vision and prove that the beauty of diversity is something to be embraced.

Kelly’s motto says it best: “Inclusion is in. Ignorance is out.” At that moment, we felt the truth of those words in every cheer, every smile, and every strut down the runway.

But what made this event even more meaningful was reconnecting with old friends who have become family. Events like these remind us that inclusion doesn’t just build bridges—it builds lasting relationships. And Kelly, you’re family to us!

To Kelly and the entire I’m Possible team, thank you for trusting us with this incredible honor. Together, we’re not just making inclusion possible—we’re making it powerful.

Today, we celebrate International Day of Persons with Disabilities, a time to honor the strength, resilience, and incredible contributions of individuals with disabilities worldwide. Disabilities don’t define limits; they redefine what’s possible. This day reminds us that inclusion is not just an act—it's a mindset that opens doors to opportunity, belonging, and empowerment.

At Different Is The New Cool, our journey began with a diagnosis, but it didn’t stop there. We’ve learned that embracing differences creates spaces where everyone thrives. Inclusion is a gift we give not only to others but to ourselves—a chance to learn, grow, and see the world through someone else’s lens.

Inclusion starts with a simple question: “How can I help?” Share a small act of inclusion you’ve seen or experienced. Let’s inspire one another to create a world where no one feels left out.

Today is World Kindness Day – a reminder that small acts of kindness can leave a lasting impact. For us at Different Is The New Cool, kindness means creating spaces where everyone feels welcome, valued, and seen. Think about a moment when someone’s kindness lifted your spirits or made you feel a little braver. That’s the kind of ripple effect we want to create today!

Here are some simple ways you can show kindness today:

Give a compliment to someone you know could use a little boost.
Pay it forward in a drive-thru line or leave a positive note in a public space.
Reach out to a friend or family member you haven’t spoken to in a while.

Behold, how good and pleasant it is for brothers to live together in unity…Psalms 133:1

This verse came to me twice this morning so it was meant for me to share…

Unity is defined as the state of being in one mind with others for the sake of accomplishing the will of God in the home, in church and in the community. Living in unity doesn’t mean we will always agree. Living in unity means that we accept and embrace our differences of opinion. Living in unity means we all are seen, accepted, valued and heard. Even when we don’t agree on a particular topic, at the end of the day we agree to take the path that unites us.

We are all Different! We are all Cool!!

October reminds us of the power of awareness and advocacy as we celebrate both ADHD and Down Syndrome Awareness Month. My son Dale, who has ADHD, has taught me that no diagnosis defines a child’s potential. With love, support, and an inclusive environment, every child can thrive. The same is true for children with Down Syndrome, whose hearts and abilities are as vast as the opportunities we create for them.

If we want to create real change, we need to start early—teaching our kids empathy, acceptance, and the value of diversity. That’s why I wrote Stop The Stare, Start The Conversation—to give families, schools, and communities the tools they need to foster inclusion.
