Thank you to the Kananesgi committee for another incredible year. Each season with Kananesgi reminds me of how powerful and inspiring Cherokee and Indigenous fashion can be when creativity is given space to flourish. I am so grateful to be part of this platform that continues to celebrate our stories, our designs, and our community of artists who create from the heart.
This year, I created a sleepwear collection with the intention of making anyone—but especially women—feel wonderful, confident, and empowered. It is about dressing for our own pleasure, feeling comfortable in our skin, and embracing beauty that begins within. Using the basket weave pattern, often called “Star on the Mountain,” in hues of sunrise and sunset, and our seven-pointed star, I designed pieces that feel like a moment of peace. A collection you can wake up to, or say goodnight to, surrounded by color and intention.
I want to thank my beautiful models who brought this vision to life on the runway: Hope Long, Kai Huskey, Nikki Crisp, Erika Wachacha, Samantha Daniels, Shelby Maney, Gaby Nagel, Shayne Catolster, and Nola T. Each of you embodied the spirit of this collection with such grace and strength, and I could not be more thankful for the way you carried these designs.
I am also endlessly appreciative of my talented backstage team. Savannah Cloer, my hairstylist, and Sasheen Brown, my makeup artist, understood this collection completely and made it come to life exactly as I envisioned. And thank you to The Dogwood Shop for lending the sweetest finishing touch, the Jellycat Bunny! You can find them in-store along with other amazing finds!
I am proud of this collection and thankful for every person who helped it take shape. You can purchase my looks by reaching out to me at [email protected] or by visiting ganvhidadesigns.org. My fabric designs are also available for purchase through https://www.spoonflower.com/profiles/ganvhida_designs so you can create something of your own.
Thank you again to Kananesgi for believing in Cherokee and Indigenous fashion, for nurturing creativity, and for giving artists like me the freedom to express, grow, and share.
