Why Should We Wear Cotton Clothes?
prof. Dr. Memişoğlu stated that there has been an increase in the number of patients who apply to polyclinics due to various skin diseases in these days when the air temperatures are above the seasonal normals throughout the dormitory.
Memişoğlu stated that the patients mostly come to them with the complaints of allergies, rash on the legs and under the arms, burning sensation and itching on the skin, and that a significant part of these ailments are caused by mistakes in the choice of clothes.
Memişoğlu, who suggested that cotton clothes should be preferred especially for underwear for body health in extreme heat, said, "Synthetic clothes cause itching, allergies and various skin diseases in the body."
Memişoğlu emphasized that cotton clothes absorb sweat in the body as well as allow the body to breathe, whereas synthetic and nylon blended clothes prevent skin respiration, cause various skin diseases in the body and increase sweating.
Pointing out that babies and children with sensitive skin are more at risk than adults in extremely hot weather, Memişoğlu said, "Cotton fabrics should not be abandoned for sensitive baby skins. Because cotton fabrics act as a shield against the heat for the body."
Cotton clothes are running low
Anatolian Entrepreneur Businessmen Association (AGID) President and Süvari Tekstil Chairman of the Board of Directors Ahmet Coşkun stated that the share of cotton and woolen clothes, which they describe as natural, in the apparel industry has decreased to 30 percent, "In this regression, besides the passion for fashion, the ease of ironing and price difference are also evident. It has an effect,” he said.
Coşkun stated that the raw material of cotton clothes is the cotton plant, whose cultivation areas are decreasing gradually in Turkey, and that the raw materials of synthetic products are mostly chemical and very low cost compared to cotton, and said: "There are cotton and synthetic clothes in the market, as well as clothes mixed with both. The more synthetics mixed into a product, the lower the cost, and the higher the cotton ratio, the higher the cost.
Although synthetic clothes are in fashion, those who are aware of the importance of cotton in terms of health do not give up cotton clothes. Those who use cotton clothes do not have a problem that they wrinkle more quickly than synthetic clothes due to the nature of the fabric. It also sees the new generation synthetic products as advantageous because they are easier to iron than cotton. In addition to synthetic clothing, viscose fashion has been going on for years. Viscose clothing, the raw material of which is wood fiber, also has an important share in the preference. However, we, as confectioners, think that the best choice is cotton clothing in all seasons."
