In 2024, literally outside became a member of REI Path Ahead Ventures Ascent cohort — a program built to support founders from historically underrepresented communities in the outdoor industry.

Through Path Ahead, we’ve met founders whose ideas, backgrounds and approaches to the outdoors continue to inspire us. So today, and throughout the rest of our time in the shop, we’re introducing you to some of the people behind the Path Ahead brands we’ve brought into our space — starting with Gabriel and Temi Earth.

Currently based in Berkeley, California, Gabriel is a lifelong skier, climber and outdoorsman with a PhD in materials science from UC Davis. His work focused on natural fibers and biopolymers made from agricultural crop residues — a foundation that shaped the way he thinks about materials, production and the future of apparel.

That combination of scientific research, time outside and curiosity about how things are made became Temi Earth: a clothing brand built around making better products through more thoughtful processes.

“Made slowly, on purpose.”

Temi Earth creates world-class apparel locally and transparently, with an emphasis on innovative materials that are better for both people and the planet.

We’re proud to have select pieces of Temi Earth in the shop. Give them a follow! And check out the website at temi.earth

Our friends at ALL WE REMEMBER will be pulling up on us August 22nd from 10am-12pm for a workshop.

During the natural indigo and shibori workshop, ALL WE REMEMBER’s designer Jacob Victorine will teach participants how to dye a 100% cotton t-shirt in a naturally fermented fructose indigo vat using shibori (Japanese resist dyeing) techniques.

Admission to the workshop is $85 and includes all shibori supplies and one of Literally Outside’s cotton t-shirts. Coffee and light pastries will be provided.

Space in the workshop is limited to 12 participants, so we recommend signing up in advance. *Link in bio for registration

In addition, we recommend that participants “dress for mess.” Natural indigo is a vat dyeing process which means water may splash onto clothing or footwear, so we suggest wearing close-toed leather sneakers or shoes and dark-colored items that will not be ruined if stained with indigo. We also recommend short sleeves or sleeves that can be rolled up since participants will submerge their (gloved) hands into the vat in order to dye items.

Please note: all orders will be fulfilled in-person at the event. There is no shipping for these items.

This Thursday we’ll be hosting Milwaukee’s Bird of Prey brand in our store.

Bird of Prey is a creative outdoor sports project. Their mission is to highlight the Midwest climbing scene and to build a community within the Midwest where the outdoors, film, and street style collide.

They’re tabling at the shop to showcase their products, talk climbing, share what they’re building and to connect with our community.

Stop by between 4pm and 8pm and say hello!
