In the spirit of Thanksgiving and as our birthday approaches (Nov 30th) we would like to thank Jarrett Payton for being our FIRST Guest on Homecoming with the Downing Brothers podcast. We met when we 1st appeared on WGN News where he is currently a sports anchor. He welcomed us with open arms and we've supported one another's show premieres, restaurant Grand openings, and everything in between.

Talk about a story!! We recently had an opportunity to renovate a home for a woman here in Chicago. So it really stood out to us that Lebron James is stepping up yet again for the families of the students that attend his school.
NBA superstar LeBron James knows how hard it is to try to learn when you don’t have a stable home, when the heat is off in the freezing winter and when you don’t have enough to eat every day.
That is why the Los Angeles Lakers forward is renovating a historic apartment building and turning it into transitional housing for families of his I Promise School students in Akron, Ohio, about a 30-minute drive south of Cleveland.

“Initially, our work was focused on helping these kids earn an education. But we’ve found that it is impossible to help them learn if they are struggling to survive — if they are hungry, if they have no heat in the freezing winter, if they live in fear for their safety,” James said in a statement. “We want this place to be their home where they feel safe, supported, and loved, knowing we are right there with them every step of the way as they get back on their feet.”

The LeBron James Family Foundation plans to expand the school to 1st through 8th grade by 2022. Right now, the school is for 3rd and 4th graders.

“Proud of this!!!!” James said on Twitter. “There’s always more to be done when it comes to giving my kids an opportunity to be successful in life. Every barrier we remove can possibly change their family’s life and we’re never going to stop!!”

When you hear about the South Side of Chicago you often hear talk of violence, death, and destruction. Unfortunately, the high crime rate has tainted the image of the city for many.

Two twin brothers Anthony and Anton Downing are helping to change the city’s narrative by their tireless work in the community. The are South Side Chicagoans through and through. They answered the call of service early in life and became neighborhood firemen.

At the age of 23, a challenge from their mom forced them into real estate investing and changed both of their lives forever.

After Anthon was living with his mom for a few years in his early 20s she told him that he “wasn’t a real man until he owned the floors he walked on”. Those words hit him like a brick and inspired him to save $7,000 in two years to purchase his first condo by way of a 203k renovation loan.

Seeing Anthon’s journey into real estate inspired Anthony and the two have been head first into investing ever since. Their lively personalities and feel good community story made them a perfect fit for a HGTV show called “Double Down”. In the show, they renovated houses in the Pill Hill section of Chicago.

They specifically choose that area because it’s a black middle-class neighborhood on the South Side. The brothers thought it was important to show the world that Chicago has more to offer than what is shown, and although the negative aspects are a part of the fabric there are also entrepreneurs and vibrate families as well.

In an effort to encourage ownership in the neighborhood they recently teamed up with the Cook County Land Bank Authority to give away a home. They see great value in South Side real estate and they are encouraging people from the area to buy homes now while they're still reasonably priced. They believe that the best way to change the narrative of the city is for natives to do it one block at a time.

The brothers told their story and broke down Chicago real estate on episode 46 of . EYL 46 will be out today at 5 pm est.
