Presidential Towers is a multi-tower residential apartment complex, built in 1986, offering walk-to-work convenience. Under new ownership, Waterton hired Jacobs/Ryan Associates to re-imagine a new entrance experience. Landscape improvements included a new entry drive, porous paving, a new outdoor seating area, newly branded signage, canopy enhancements and coordinated lighting fixtures. New RedPointe maples and Jefferson elms are underplanted with flowing drifts of boxwoods and hydrangeas. A master plan with perspective renderings visually assisted in decision making and approvals, leading to successful design outcomes. Client: Waterton. Engineer: SPACECO, Inc. Landscape Contractor: Otto Damgaard & Sons. General Contractor: W. E. O'Neil Construction.

At the Apple flagship store, our maples from Kaneville Tree Farms are looking fantastic next to the Chicago River this summer, being cared for by Bartlett Tree Experts -- thanks! We were consultants to Ross Barney Architects for the plaza, and building architecture was by Foster + Partners.

A number of years ago, Jacobs/Ryan Associates designed the Lion and Tiger habitat at the Lincoln Park Zoo, along with Interactive Design. The rock outcroppings, called kopje, were constructed from artificial rock.
We like these happy campers!

We couldn’t be more excited about the Ford Calumet Environmental Center (FCEC) being a 2021 Best of Year Award Finalist in the Environmental Impact category!

One special feature of this project is the constructed wastewater wetlands system—the first in Chicago and one of the first in Illinois. Thanks to the help of our partners Biohabitats and Jacobs-Ryan Associates, it serves as an economical (and environmentally friendly) alternative to connecting to the city sewer system on the other side of the river. This system is inspired by the park itself, using the same processes that naturally occur in the marsh to process blackwater and release clean water via leach field.

At the Wauconda Public Library, Jacobs/Ryan Associates worked with library staff and architects focused on redesigning the front entrance, walkways, drop off, and improved ADA accessibility. We designed new plantings and an irrigation system creating an interesting view from inside out, enhancing the user experience of going to the library. The design includes colorful shrub and perennial plantings, ornamental trees, and evergreens along the front entrance, its stairs and ramps, and gracing new and existing site furnishings. Lighting has been greatly improved by adding new enhanced LED fixtures, brightening the entire area. Architecture and photos by Product Architecture + Design. Project and Construction Management by Featherstone, Inc. Civil engineering by Eriksson Engineering Associates, Ltd. Landscape contracting by Landworks Limited.
