Michelle Obama’s recent book highlights the beauty of “the power of small” in knitting and the power of crafting to help us stay grounded. The significance of each stitch as part of a greater whole. This made me reflect on many projects throughout the years that have made me feel connected to friends and loved ones. This is a project I completed a few years ago for a friend whose grandmother started the blanket before she passed. The unfinished blanket and all the materials travelled across the world to get to me and then the finished product traveled across the country to get back to my friend. I felt honored to have been a part of this intercontinental and inter-generational project. Crocheting symbolizes ways in which our contributions, however small, are part of something greater, and make us feel connected. How profound changes start with small, steady steps that take time to form patterns. Thanks, for the beautiful reminder.
