Why Arabic calligraphy baseball hats?
Sometimes I genuinely question my own stupidity.
Taking what many consider America’s pastime—baseball—and putting Arabic calligraphy on it… I know how that sounds to some people. And trust me, I’ve heard it. Very directly. Very colorfully. My DMs have seen their fair share of “feedback.”
But context matters.
I grew up in the U.S., specifically during 9/11. That era taught a lot of us one thing: lay low. Don’t stand out. Don’t draw attention to who you are. Blend in. Stay safe.
I don’t believe that should be the case.
One of the most beautiful things about this country—and about sports in particular—is that it’s the great equalizer. It’s common ground. It’s refuge. Especially in dark times. Baseball, basketball, sports in general… they were that for me. Something pure. Something shared.
So why not let that space reflect all of us?
And then there’s the style. Arabic calligraphy carries something special. There’s an emotion, a rhythm, a depth that sometimes you just can’t translate in English. It adds soul. It adds identity. It adds flair.
So yeah—sometimes I question myself.
But I keep going.
Because I love what I do.
Because it’s fun.
And because I believe we don’t have to hide anymore.
