Starting April 1st, 2022 the Artisan Collective will be hosting First Fridays where you can to meet, greet and support artisans in residence (including yours truly) and guest vendors, while enjoying good vibes, networking and refreshments in South Shore! Our artisans in residence provide a wide range of creative offerings including, but not limited to, paintings, jewelry, cosmetics and home decor. Why would Ricafrica, an online store African goods host an event like Afri-ween? Well friends, because we are no longer just an online store. We are pleased to announce that we now have a physical space in the beautiful and historic South Shore, Chicago. Not only that but we are also expanding our approach to fulfilling our mission, to provide enriching experiences of Africa to anyone, anywhere, through in-person and virtual African art and culture programming.

Afri-ween, an African twist on Halloween, was the first of our in-person programming. It was a fun and educational African adventure for the whole family. Our guests enjoyed an exhibit of various facts about Africa while collecting candy along the way. Fact themes included geography, history, art and culture.

The best thing about Afri-ween, for me, was listening to and watching kids process what they were learning about Africa, with their family. Those precious moments were validating for me because I know that these kids are now armed with knowledge that no one can take away from them and that will empower their critical thinking skills as they process the workings of the world and their place in it (our next post will elaborate on this). My hope is that this will be the takeaway for anyone who encounters anything Ricafrica.
