✨ Join The Lactation Lab! ✨

We’re excited to launch The Lactation Lab—a free, grant-funded program for parents interested in breast/chest feeding, offered in collaboration with The Love Package Project. Led by trained lactation professionals (IBCLCs, CLCs, and CLS), The Lactation Lab is a unique blend of support group and educational class, held every Thursday from 2-4 pm at the Chicago Birthworks Collective studio.

We're over the moon to be introducing an education model that affirms the differences in person to person, and family to family and prepares pregnant people for where they want to go.

Y'all wouldn't believe it, but we didn't have a complete vision of how this space would take form when we moved in. We went back and forth for months on design, furniture, paint colors. (My god we battled it out over the paint) But what we did know is how we wanted this space to feel to Black families and their individual villages.

In a city where birthing hospitals are disappearing faster than we can count, in a country where Black maternal mortality rings louder than the joys of Black parenthood, we chose to carve out a lil space for us. A lil space for wellness. For peace, for warmth and safety.

Thank y'all for helping us build this space and keeping it as vibrant as it. We owe y'all everything. And for as long as we can, we'll fight to give it to you. Thank you for always capturing the beauty in what we're building.

A research study that is truly changing the landscape for Black families in Chicago! If you or someone you know is expecting and interested in working with an all Black care team, please spread the word!

UI Health is launching a new research study comparing regular maternity care to a new model, called Melanated Group Midwifery Care (MGMC).

In MGMC, Black women receive prenatal care by a Black care team (involving midwives, nurse care coordinators, and postpartum doulas) and with other Black women and pregnant people. The goal of MGMC is to improve Black families' experiences and outcomes and participants will be compensated for their time.
