Outfit-as-citation:

1) Pick an artwork

2) Translate it into a look (color, silhouette, material, mood)

3) Title it like a gallery label

4) Add a one-sentence thesis (what your look is saying)

Chicago twist, cite a Chicago artist or a work in a Chicago collection. Chicago is the canon.

Chicago artists as the canon.

This year’s assignment is Outfit-as-Citation: pick an artwork, then translate it into your look (color, silhouette, texture, symbols, mood).

We pulled a few Chicago artists (and Chicago-connected artists) to spark ideas. Local is recommended and appreciated, but you can cite any artist. The goal is a clear reference, not a perfect replica.

Drop the artist you’re citing for your look (Chicago or anywhere). Bonus points if you add:

1) the specific work, and
2) what you’re translating (color palette, materials, pattern, shape, mood).

Chicago, meet DJ Mochi.

Chicago Does the Met 2026 is Fashion Is Art, and the music has to feel like a gallery opening that turns into a dancefloor.

is a Chicago-based DJ, producer, and event curator known for a global club palette: Amapiano, Baile Funk, Dancehall, and American-born club; plus deep cuts and remixes that keep the room surprised.

Since moving to Chicago in 2016, Mochi’s earned residencies at Soho House, Ace Hotel, and Sleeping Village, and co-launched Everyhere Between (a Twitch-born series turned one of the city’s premier music experiences). Major brands + platforms have tapped Mochi for soundtracks and stages and Chicago Reader recognized Mochi for “Best career breakout by a DJ.”
