Mt Lassen Fiber Guild

Mt Lassen Fiber Guild Mt. Lassen Fiber Guild explores and shares all things fiber throughout Butte County and surrounding areas.

An enthusiastic group of people with one thing in common - the love of fiber and all we can do with it. We have many workshops and lectures throughout the year and host the annual Fiber Fusion. Weaving, knitting, crochet, spinning, dyeing, felting, kumihimo, basketry, lace-making, and more. We are interested in every step of the process from growing the fiber (plant or animal) through the finished

product. Whether a thousand year old technique or something new and "high-tech" we are always learning and sharing what we learn with our friends.

From MLFG President Char Pias: "Great turnout (2/6/26) at the Redding opening of the mixed-media art exhibition 'Woven Together by our Roots, Land and Experiences!' My tapestry 'Threads without Borders' emerged from an intuitive, free-style process that allowed pattern and landscape to unfold organically. Bands of color form sky, mountain, and earth, drawing from the mountainous region near Delphi, where my Greek ancestors lived. The work reflects a sense of place shaped by memory, continuity, and relationship to land.

While traveling in Oaxaca, Mexico, I visited the ancient Zapotec site of Mitla, where the Greca motif appears throughout the architecture. Weaving this tapestry in Oaxaca, I recognized a profound visual resonance between the Zapotec Greca and the Greek Key or Meander, a symbol of continuity, unity, and the eternal flow of life. This shared pattern, encountered across cultures and centuries, became central to the work. In the upper field, small cloud forms contain the Greek Mati, offering a subtle protective presence within the landscape."

Exhibit through 2/27/26, Old City Hall, Redding

Wonderful story/organization!

It can be heartbreaking to let go of a hand-made rug or sweater that a loved one didn't quite finish. A group of volunteer knitters, quilters and other crafters offer some closure.

Nolan Wright is a fiber artist who uses coiling and knotting to make sculptural basketry forms, working with pine needles, waxed linen thread, other cords and copper wire. His work has been selected for a number of national juried exhibits, including Art Evolved: Intertwined, cosponsored by the National Basketry Association and Studio Art Quilt Associates, touring the United States through the end of 2026. Other recent selections include the Handweavers Guild of America’s Small Expressions and Dogwood to Kudzu exhibits, the Fiber Art Network’s Excellence in Fiber and Yarn, Rope, String exhibits, and Fantastic Fibers at the Yeiser Art Center. He points to the juxtaposition of shapes, textures, and colors that catch his eye in the world around him as the inspiration for his work. Not that he tries to recreate any specific object or scene. It is more that they resonate with something inside him at an emotional level as well as aesthetically, and he sees their influence in the materials he chooses and what happens as he works on a piece, each the result of a slow, organic, almost meditative process.
