When Veronica and I first started “The Four Avocados,” we had no idea it would turn into the adventure it has. What began as a simple love for estate sales and yard sales quickly blossomed into a full-fledged reselling business on eBay. We fell in love with the thrill of discovering hidden treasures, and soon realized that not only were we good at spotting vintage and antique collectibles, but that we were passionate about saving them too.
I left my previous career behind without hesitation, and we were completely hooked on the idea of turning this passion into a business. We went all in, and while it’s been a tough journey—especially in Southern California, where running a small business with limited funds is no easy feat—we wouldn’t trade it for anything. They always say… When you love what you do, it doesn’t feel like work. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t hard sometimes. It is, very hard. But it’s worth it. And we’ve been humbled and moved by all the cool stories and people we’ve met.
One of the things that keeps us going, even on the toughest of days, is the messages we receive from our buyers. Like the time someone told us, “I’m in tears; my grandmother had these in her living room since I could remember, and I’m so happy to have found them again.” Or the moment when a guy shared, “My sister loved this shirt on me. She passed away years ago, and I lost the shirt when I moved. I can’t believe I found it listed here after all these years, and now I can wear it and think about her. I know she would be happy.” These kind of messages fuel our fire. And it’s moments like these that remind us this is so much more than just flipping items for a bit of a profit. Which is what some think we simply do. It’s more profound than that for us, and my whole family of four know’s it’s about saving treasures and reconnecting people with their memories.
We’ve poured our sweat, tears, and life savings into this business, and we haven’t regretted it for a second. Some people say, “Don’t work with family, or especially your spouse!” But honestly, Veronica is not just my wife; she’s the best business partner I could ever ask for. We are such a great team, and have the same drive and goals. We also each have our individual strengths that make this whole thing work even better. I couldn’t do this without her, or without the support and help our two kiddos have put in as well.
So, thank you for taking the time to read this. We've been meaning to put ourselves "out there" more, so we want to sprinkle in-between, the usual product listing content with some more personal stuff, so you can see who is behind The Four Avocados. Thank you to everyone for purchasing and supporting us which allows us both to live out our dream job each day. 🙏
