For more than 2,000 years, Zabargad Island (Island of St John) in the Red Sea has been one of the world’s most legendary sources of gem peridot. Mined since at least the 3rd century BC and celebrated by the Greeks and Romans, the island produced vibrant green crystals that were traded throughout the ancient world. Beyond its rich history, Zabargad is geologically remarkable, preserving mantle-derived rocks uplifted during the formation of the Red Sea. The island’s famous peridot crystals formed in hydrothermal veins.

Ex. Ray Berry Collection. Ray Berry was a respected Colorado mineral collector and mining claim owner whose passion for minerals spanned more than 40 years. He owned and operated several mining claims during his collecting career and was an active member of the Colorado Springs Mineralogical Society, where he served as both Show Committee Chairman and President. Ray was also a dedicated member of Friends of Mineralogy. His collection reflects a lifetime devoted to mineral collecting, mining, and the advancement of the hobby. Ray passed away in 2017.

Beautiful raw citrine from Minas Gerais, Brazil, complete with sulfur inclusion and mica at the base. This citrine includes gorgeous re-growth, indicating pauses in growth and points in growth where the crystal structure resumed. This creates such an aesthetic structural look that we love.

Aquamarine is the blue to blue-green variety of beryl, crystallizing in the hexagonal crystal system with a Mohs hardness of 7.5–8. Its luster is typically vitreous (glass-like), and fine specimens range from semi-transparent to completely translucent.

A: A delicately elongated crystal of from Medina, Minas Gerais, Brazil, displaying an ethereal icy-blue saturation with remarkable transparency throughout the tapering prism. I would characterize this piece as possessing a graceful, almost aerodynamic form, terminating in a naturally sculpted etched set of points that catches light with exceptional elegance. Of course this piece also possesses the fantastic hollowing that makes Medina so memorable. Fine internal veils and subtle growth textures create a liquid, glacial appearance. Measuring 5.6 x 1.2 x 1.2 cm.

B. A stout and beautifully striated crystal from Medina, Minas Gerais, Brazil. This specimen exhibits pronounced vertical growth etching and lustrous prism faces, with soft seafoam-blue coloration distributed evenly throughout the crystal. The semi-transparent body reveals intricate internal structures and natural phantom-like textures under strong illumination. Most exciting, the growth is fully etched along one edge of the hexagonal ridge and seems to “terminate” along to the interior of the hollowed core. Measuring 5.5 x 1.7 x 1.1 cm

The gem displays the clean, luminous transparency and serene coloration associated with high-quality Brazilian material, balancing sophistication with the calming visual character for which aquamarine is renowned. 5.08 ct; 3.5 x 7 x 0.4 cm
