The Clarence Arts and Crafts Society History

The Clarence Arts and Crafts Society began back in 1976 when a group of about ten women who knew one another through mutual friendships or their time volunteering with the Town’s Welcome Wagon group, one night at a dinner party decided to put on an arts and craft show with their treasures trove of fine handmade/crafted goods. op owner and Patti Gamin organized the first of many to come art shows at the Clarence Town Park Club House, where at least a dozen tables were filled back in 1976 for their first Summer Show. Known artisans/crafters at the time who joined in the newly organized group “The Original Clarence Arts and Crafts Society”, (Toni Marks, Patti Gamin, Rose Carter, Rose Kunowski, Louise Bennett, Janet Jury) two of which who are still actively involved to this day with the Society and Show are Rose Carter and Patti Gamin. Their first Fall Show held the first full weekend in November and has continued so over the years showcasing juried artisans and crafters with quality products. The Society is a non-profit organization that promotes Arts and Crafts in the community, supported by proceeds from the Society’s Arts and Craft Annual Basket Raffle.

🧑‍🎨 MEET THE MEMBER: PAT McKEIGHAN 🏺🌿

What happens when creativity, color, and a little bit of “mud” come together? You get the beautiful, one-of-a-kind pottery of Pat McKeighan, the artist behind PM Pottery!

A member of the Clarence Arts & Crafts Society since 2023, Pat has turned her small home studio into her very own happy space. 💕 Whether she’s wheel throwing or hand building, every piece she creates is full of personality and inspired by the beauty of nature.

🌿 Pat often presses leaves and flowers from her own garden into the clay, creating beautiful botanical imprints. She also loves hand painting her pieces and experimenting with layers of colorful glazes to achieve unique effects.

Pat’s creative philosophy says it all:

“Money can’t buy happiness, but it can buy more pottery supplies, and that’s pretty much the same thing!” 😂🏺

We’re thrilled to have Pat and PM Pottery as part of the Clarence Arts & Crafts Society! ❤️

🌿 Meet the Member: Betsy Lehan 🎨

We are excited to introduce you to Betsy Lehan, one of the talented members of the Clarence Arts & Crafts Society!

Betsy joined CACS in 2025 and creates under the name Betsy Lehan Art. While she has been making art all her life, moving to Clarence inspired her to turn her creativity into an art business.

Her primary mediums are acrylic and watercolor painting, but Betsy also loves wood burning and experimenting with mixed media. With a deep love of nature, much of her work is inspired by the beautiful scenery around Clarence, her camp in the Adirondacks, and the breathtaking views she discovers while traveling. 🌲🏞️

When she’s not creating, Betsy’s main focus is raising her two kiddos and taking regular walks with her three-legged rescue pup. She previously worked in workforce development as a career counselor, and today she spends her extra time creating art, writing and illustrating children’s books, and volunteering with some wonderful organizations throughout Clarence.

We’re so happy to have Betsy as part of the Clarence Arts & Crafts Society and can’t wait for you to discover her beautiful, nature-inspired work! ❤️

🌟 Meet the Member: Dana Hoffman! 🌟

We’re excited to introduce you to Dana Hoffman, a member of the Clarence Arts & Crafts Society since 2022!

🧺 Dana is the creative force behind Buffalo Baskets, where she hand-weaves beautiful, one-of-a-kind baskets using bamboo reed. She has been weaving for about 10 years and loves experimenting with the many patterns and colors available in reed.

For Dana, weaving is more than just a craft—it’s therapeutic, relaxing, and something she absolutely loves creating. And as she says, “Everyone can use one more unique basket!” ❤️

A retired school administrator, Dana has called Western New York home for more than 30 years. When she’s not weaving, you’ll likely find her enjoying the outdoors or hitting the slopes for some skiing. 🎿🌲

We’re so happy to have Dana as part of the Clarence Arts & Crafts Society and can’t wait for you to see her beautiful basket creations!
