If you are considering taking your dog to a public place for the first time, make sure your dog is comfortable around people, other dogs, and different environments. Gradually expose them to various situations.

Also, visit during off-peak hours and start slow: Begin with short visits, gradually increasing the duration as your dog becomes more accustomed to the environment.

Don't rush the training process. Take it one step at a time, gradually increasing the complexity of tasks.

Remember that not all dogs are suited for public places like Lowe's, so gauge your dog's comfort level and behavior before attempting regular training sessions there. Always prioritize safety and respect for others in the store and consult a professional if needed.

When people ask me what I think is the most "dangerous " dog breed out there, I tell them the obvious answer....

An untrained dog! 🐕

Now, don't get me wrong... If you have a dog that hasn't been trained, causes no fuss, and is a perfect little fur-angel, then that's awesome for you! But small or large, purebred or mutt, an untrained dog CAN react in such a manner, either through excitement, fear, or aggression that can hurt you or a loved one in a split second.

Training for you and your dog is a proactive approach to ensuring the safety of your family.

Here are two KEY questions you need to ask yourself if you are considering hiring a trainer:

1. "What will happen if I don't get my dog trained?"

Possible Answers -
A) My dog could get out and run away.
B) When guests come over, someone could get hurt because my dog jumps on them.
C) When walking my dog, they could pull me or a loved one down if they got really excited.
D) I may have to re-home my dog if the behavior doesn't get better.

2. "How would my life (and my dog's life) be better if I do get training?"

Your Future:
A) I am able to take my dog anywhere.
B) Guests can come over without being trampled.
C) I can take a peaceful walk through the neighborhood with my dog.
D) The stress of having my dog off-leash is gone!

If an "aha" moment comes from either of those answers, then it's definitely time to get help.
