My 3-4 years in business has taught me a lot. One of the biggest lessons? Not every customer is for every business, and not every product is for every person.

What I still struggle to understand is why some people feel the need to publicly insult small businesses and the people behind them.

I hear the comments. Sometimes they’re whispered in the store. Sometimes they’re posted online.

“I saw that somewhere else.”

“You can get it cheaper online.”

“That’s overpriced.”

Here’s the thing—if you don’t like something, don’t buy it. If you found it somewhere else, buy it there. Nobody is forcing anyone to shop small.

But before leaving a rude comment, remember there is a real person behind that business. A person paying rent, utilities, payroll, insurance, taxes, event fees, inventory costs, and spending countless hours trying to build something meaningful for their customers and community.

Small businesses ARE NOT, just selling products. We’re sponsoring local events, DONATING to fundraisers, supporting schools, supporting other small businesses, and investing back into the communities we serve.

So while you’re entitled to your opinion, kindness is free.
