I’ve been trying to put into words what Steph’s sudden passing has meant but since there’s no reason, no sense to it all, I’ve found myself just hearing her tell me & everyone else around me, “you got it mama.”
Steph welcomed me to Main Street as a newbie shop owner far before I even knew how to be a shop owner - with a semi bare space filled with things I thought were quirky and beautiful and a handful of hats I was proud to call my own. She shared in all the small joys & wore them up & down the street like our very own Elle Woods. Smart, unique, talented, maybe the only time I loved to see kitten heels. I never really knew many women who were so authentically feminine who could pull that same energy out of others so easily - those who maybe didn’t so naturally feel it on their own. I have these little notes of support & go get ems & drool worthy designs we’d send each other telling me, in particular, to keep on truckin.
We got to share in our designs and in last years as literal neighbors. Seeing each other every day, often times in quick passing as we said hello & onto our shop or mama duties. She became my friend & maybe most importantly over the years, I watched as she became one of Marlo’s biggest cheerleaders. “Obsessed” as she would say in everything Marlo did, said, showed her. Inviting her in for dress up, thanking her for her sidewalk designs, gasping as Marlo zoomed by her on her scooter. She lifted Marlo up every single time. As she did so many people & for that I am forever grateful.
In honor of Steph, has the great idea to come together to sew rosettes out of remnants for everyone to have for her celebration of life (& beyond!). I’ll be in the shop Sunday with fabrics and supplies for those that would like to make a rose for Steph. Will gladly teach you. Bubbles welcome because very Stephanie approved.🌹Happy Mother’s Day Steph & Happy Mother’s day all.
