Hello Friends!

I want to thank everyone who kindly participated in our BIG EVENT Tuesday with the Old Colorado City Historical Society, It was a HUGE success!! Your generosity supported the OCCHS greatly. It was such a fun day meeting new faces and connecting with long time friends. I clearly understand what my parents enjoyed about their business over the past 46 years, it was YOU, the community.
My parents spent many years serving in this community, giving back to many, and it was fun for me to give back in some way to follow in their footsteps.

A little history:
In 1980 when my parents moved into the home, the upstairs was carved out into 3 apartments. The house's original wallpaper had been painted over in baby blue, baby pink and pea green paint. It was dated and worn down. The first improvement my folks made was to the kitchen. My father put new cabinets into this space making it functional for modern cooking, however, he tried very hard to keep the original charm in tact.

In 1984, my parents hired two very talented men to come in and help them resurrect the home back into it's original state. They spent many hours researching wall paper trying to find period style paper that would reflect the character of the home when it was built in 1891. There were many pieces of wood trim that were missing in the home from years of neglect and use. My father was able to replicate those missing pieces by turning a butter knife into a lathe and remade several of the bullseyes on the old door frames. Elden was a very talented man and resourceful with his woodworking skills.

My parents were married almost 70 years before Elden's passing in 2023. They were world travelers and spent a lot of time learning new and amazing things along the way. One of those things was their appreciation of antiquities. They worked hard at preserving the Stockbridge home and filling it full of beautiful furniture that was as near period as one could get. The main bedroom upstairs houses a beautiful carved bed and dresser that came from the Briarhurst Mansion in Manitou. They tried to honor the Stockbridge house the best they knew how.

Again, I want to thank you for coming and showing your support. If you have any questions, please feel free to message me here on Sylvia's FB page, I would love to share what I know with you. It is and has been an honor to be the care taker of the Stockbridge House alongside my parents for so many years.

Sincerely,
Lashelle
