On July 21, 2025, Deputy McLain, along with his trainee, Deputy Mathews, were involved in a serious accident while enroute to assist another agency. The responding officer from that agency had called for immediate backup as he was assaulted by two individuals.
Without hesitation, Deputy McLain and Mathews answered the call for help. With emergency lights and sirens, they proceeded to the location to assist.
While responding, their vehicle was forced off the roadway by another driver as they were passing them, resulting in a crash.
Deputy Mathews was fortunate to walk away with minor injuries. He is sore and bruised, but is expected to make a full recovery with time.
Unfortunately, Deputy McLain was not as lucky.
He had to be airlifted for immediate medical attention and was intubated in the ICU until the following afternoon. Deputy McLain sustained significant injuries and has a long road to recovery ahead. While the prognosis is positive and expected to recover, he will be out of work for an extended period of time.
