I wanted to take a moment to update everyone about my health and businesses. At this time we have decided to stop all treatments, and move forward with hospice. Affective immediately Scarlet's Unmentionables will be closed. If you have an order in limbo, please know we are working to get a 3rd party in the shop to get everything sorted out.

Most days I do not feel well enough to use a phone or computer, so please be patient, and if you are a personal friend reach out to Chris for more information.

My Cancer Update
Last week I completed my initial 12 rounds of chemo. I'm thankful to have that over with. I'll have scans next week and meet with the doctor to figure out the next steps. I'm not eligible for surgery to remove any of the cancer, so I'll be on chemo of some sort for the rest of my life. Yippee, right?!?!?
I'm feeling OK and working in the mornings every day except every other Wednesday & that following Friday when I go in for my infusion which lasts about 3 hours but I'm at the hospital about 5 and then I go home with a pump that infuses more chemo for 46 hours, then back to the hospital to have the pump disconnected. That Friday I'm wiped out and that lasts pretty much the whole weekend. I'm lucky to get out of bed on Sunday afternoon. But back to work on Monday and every day gets a little better from there on out.
I'm super tired all the time and starting to feel weak because I'm not moving around much. So, I sleep a lot.
Chris has been just amazing. He helps me with everything and has mastered the fine art of laundry! He used to put too much soap in the machine and it caused all kinds of trouble. He's been super about making me meals - I only want CARBS! Nothing else. So every night we have the same conversation - what do you want for dinner, which a lot of people do, but for us it's different because he isn't jazzed about what I want and I certainly don't want what he wants. But he cooks for us both and makes me whatever I want without any complaint. I'm very lucky & blessed to have him in my life. I know I could get thru this cancer s**t on my own, but he's always been my rock and he really helps me especially when I'm feeling down or considering the what if's.
I'm hoping the next chapter in all this will be a bit easier and that I'll start feeling like myself a little bit more. My flower garden is coming up and I can't wait to get outside and start playing in the dirt. The seed catalog has been my best friend thru all this as it gives me hope for spring and my flowers & veggies (that right now I won't eat right now (hahahaha - so Chris asks why are we even doing it!?!? He doesn't eat much for veggies!)
I also want to thank my sweet friend Kelsey Szeto for helping me with my Go Fund Me page (Cheryl's Battle against Colon Cancer). I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for helping me with your donations. Never in a million years did I think I would need to ask for help, but that's where I'm at now. My hospital bill grows daily and since I know my treatments will likely never end, it's a very scary path to walk down. Having all my friends & family help me means the world to me. I'm so blessed to have you all in my life and I appreciate you so very much. I've received wonderful gifts, books, food, pretty much anything you could think of - and I'm humbled to the core to know & feel that love.
So THANK YOU TO EVERYONE!!

Important Updates & Deadlines!

As most of you already know, I have been diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic Colon cancer the end of September. I am scheduled to have chemo every other Wednesday, and therefore will not be in the office on those days. I had a little setback last week as my counts were not high enough so I'm hopeful to get back on track this Wednesday. I am a planner, so this was a kick in the pants for me as it really messed up my schedule, but I'm over it now and ready to get started again. The sooner I can start, the sooner I can say this is over, right!?!? I started to lose my hair as well so next time you see me, I'll likely be snow white (awwhh bummer, no more hair color for a while) and maybe will be wearing a hat or a beanie or just rockin what I have left. I was told my hair would thin, but not completely lose my hair, but jeepers what was in the garbage was a complete shock to me.

With all that said, I'm asking that you PLEASE EMAIL me for anything instead of calling. My brain is foggy and it really helps me to be able to print off an email and read it over several times, or maybe the next day. I'm trying my best to keep my shop open as I have been in the mornings, but I can't promise I can keep all my appointments. My Mom, Karen, is here from Alburquerque, NM helping me not only at home, but she is also helping me in the shop doing some filing and matching up purchase orders and helping me in general. On days I don't feel like I can make it into the shop, she may be the one that calls you so please don't be alarmed.

DEADLINE: with the end of the year rapidly approaching, I'm forced to make a hard decision. Normally I allow orders to come in mid-month, but with things the way they are, I'm asking that ALL ORDERS be placed on or before DECEMBER 1st, 2023, in order for me to get them back to you by year end. I know this is soon and I apologize but chemo brain is real, and I do struggle with that. I would hate to miss something or not be able to get your insurance billed prior to year-end.

Lastly, I have had several people ask how they can help. Honestly, monetarily is the best right now. I've had lots of generous, thoughtful gifts that are so useful, but my medical bills are coming in and help to pay them would be huge. There has been a Go Fund Me set up as well as a Donation account at Hills Bank & Trust. Below are the links.

Hills Bank - Cheryl Schlote Donation 6369 (give the teller this information to make a deposit).

Thank you to each of you for continuing to support Scarlet's Unmentionables & me. Thank you for your understanding and patience. I am leaning on your love & support, and I will get thru this. One step, one day at a time.

Hello Everyone,
I have news to share with you and I've been struggling a little on how exactly to get it out. I was diagnosed last week with stage 4 metastatic colon cancer. I go on Monday for a port placement, liver biopsy, & MRI. I then intend to start a 6 month chemo regimen where I'll get chemo every 2 weeks. I AM going to beat this.

As you all know, my patient's mean everything to me and of course, I'm booked solid right now thru the 1st part of November. I'm going to do everything in my power to take care of everyone, but I do need your help. I'm totally fine with you sharing what's going on, and if you need me, I ask that you please call me at the shop & leave a message or better yet please email me ([email protected] - this is most likely going to be the easiest way to reach me - I can print things off and when I feel better attend to them.) to schedule a fitting. I'm going to try hard to keep my schedule as it is now being here M-F in the mornings, but this is all brand new to me and I'm not exactly sure how I'm going to feel so one day at a time.

I do have the capability of working from home and I do intend to do my bookwork and billing from there. My Mom is coming to help at home as well, so together we can tackle everything.

So, until further notice, Scarlet's will remain open on a by appointment only basis. I want to thank each and every one of you for all you do for Scarlet's & for me. I'll start my 6th year in business in January and it's all because you place your trust in me. Please don't give up - I'm not going anywhere!!

Thanks to you all,
Cheryl
