🎣 WHY THURSDAY IS AN EXCELLENT DAY FOR FISHING

🌊 Thursday, September 10 is shaping up to be one of the best fishing days of the entire week across the Coastal Bend.

🌕 The biggest reason is the solunar activity. Thursday is rated VERY HIGH around Bob Hall Pier, which puts it above Wednesday’s already strong HIGH rating. That means the moon position and feeding periods are lining up exceptionally well for fish activity.

🌊 The tide pattern around Port Aransas also gives us several changes in water movement throughout the day:

• 4:27 AM around 1.8 ft
• 9:18 AM around 1.4 ft
• 2:20 PM around 1.8 ft
• 9:37 PM around 0.5 ft

🐟 Multiple tide changes can be a big deal because every time the water starts moving again, bait can get pushed through guts, cuts, channels and around structure. Predator fish will often position themselves where that current brings food right to them.

🌅 Early morning should be one of my favorite windows. Lower light, cooler temperatures and the first movements of bait can give Trout and Redfish a better opportunity to feed before the daytime heat settles in.

🎯 THURSDAY TARGET SPECIES

• Speckled Trout
• Redfish
• Spanish Mackerel
• Black Drum
• Flounder
• Whiting

🎣 BEACH BUM GAME PLAN

• Start fishing early
• Concentrate on moving water
• Watch for bait flipping on the surface
• Work surf cuts and deeper guts
• Fish current seams around jetties and passes
• Throw silver spoons for Trout and Redfish
• Use live shrimp, croaker or mullet around structure
• Keep an eye out for Spanish Mackerel if the water is clean

🟢 THURSDAY BITE RATING: EXCELLENT DAY

🌴 Thursday has just about everything I want to see in a fishing setup. Very high solunar activity, multiple tide changes and plenty of opportunities for moving water can create several strong feeding windows throughout the day.

🎣 If you have been waiting for a day to call in sick with a mysterious case of fishing fever, Thursday might have you looking at that tackle box pretty hard.

If you’re sitting at home staring at four walls, you might NOT want to look at the beach right now… because you’re gonna be mad you ain’t here! 😂

Beautiful blue skies, gorgeous blue water, and big ol’ white puffy clouds. Port Aransas is showing off today like she knows she’s the prettiest beach in Texas.

🌡️ It’s about 87° out here, so it’s still plenty warm enough to cook your flip-flops if you leave ’em sitting in the sun too long.

🌊 Surf is running around 2 feet with a yellow flag flying, so the Gulf has a little wiggle in her hips today.

😎 Overall, it’s a darn good beach day. Blue water, blue skies, and those big white clouds offshore making the whole place look like somebody turned the pretty k**b all the way up.

🌧️ HOLY COW… IT MIGHT ACTUALLY RAIN AT THE BEACH TODAY! 👀

Beach Bums, somebody better go outside and check the sky because we might actually get a little rain today.

🌊 Seas are running around 2 foot, so the surf shouldn’t be too rowdy.

🌡️ Sea temperature is sitting at a downright steamy 87 degrees. Jumping in the Gulf today ain’t exactly gonna cool you off. You’re basically climbing into a giant salty bathtub.

☀️ Expect plenty of heat and humidity with partly sunny skies, but showers and thunderstorms could pop up around the coast today.

🏖️ Overall, the beach is looking pretty darn decent. Just keep an eye on those clouds because a thunderstorm can change things pretty quick.

Bring sunscreen, bring plenty of water, and maybe bring an umbrella that can’t decide whether it wants to block the sun or the rain.

🎣 WHY WEDNESDAY IS AN EXCELLENT DAY FOR FISHING

🌊 Wednesday, September 9 is shaping up to be one of the strongest fishing days of the week across the Coastal Bend.

🌕 Solunar activity is rated high, which means the moon position and feeding periods are lining up much better than they were over the weekend.

🌊 The tide pattern also gives us several changes in water movement during the day instead of one long, lazy swing.

Around Port Aransas:

• 4:21 AM around 2.0 ft
• 9:16 AM around 1.7 ft
• 12:33 PM around 1.8 ft
• 8:45 PM around 0.2 ft

Around Bob Hall Pier:

• 4:29 AM around 1.8 ft
• 9:26 AM around 1.6 ft
• 12:45 PM around 1.7 ft
• 8:57 PM around 0.2 ft

🐟 Those tide changes can help get bait moving and create feeding opportunities around areas where current starts pushing water through structure.

Good places to concentrate on:

• Surf guts
• Cuts
• Jetties
• Channels
• Passes
• Drop-offs
• Current seams

🌅 Early morning should still be one of the best times to be on the water.

You are getting:

• Cooler temperatures
• Lower light
• More active bait
• Better Trout and Redfish potential
• Less heat once the sun starts climbing

🎯 WEDNESDAY TARGET SPECIES

• Speckled Trout
• Redfish
• Spanish Mackerel
• Black Drum
• Flounder
• Whiting

🎣 BEACH BUM GAME PLAN

• Start early before sunrise if you can
• Fish areas with visible current
• Watch for bait getting pushed through cuts
• Work silver spoons for Trout and Redfish
• Use live shrimp, croaker or mullet around structure
• Fish tight to jetty rocks for Flounder and Drum
• If the water is clean, watch for Spanish Mackerel

🟢 WEDNESDAY BITE RATING: EXCELLENT DAY

🌴 Wednesday has a strong overall setup because you are combining high solunar activity with several tide changes and better water movement.

🎣 This is the kind of day where I would not waste the morning wondering whether to go fishing. I would already have the rods loaded and be heading toward the water.

Well Beach Bums, it’s a cool 86 degrees out there today, and after yesterday, that feels mighty nice.

The beach is looking good, the breeze feels right, and there’s hardly a soul out there. Plenty of sand and dang near the whole beach to yourself.

And from here on out till around March 1st, this is pretty much what you can expect... nice, quiet, empty beaches.

HURRAH! 🌴

Wow, Beach Bums, the sea temperature has climbed to a TOASTY 87° ! You’re gonna feel like a boiled egg out there today !...

Wow, Beach Bums, the sea temperature has climbed to a TOASTY 87° ! You’re gonna feel like a boiled egg out there today ! 🍳

Hot and humid with seas running around 2 feet, but don’t expect the surf to behave all day. Those southeast winds are going to start howling, so hold onto that toupee or it might end up somewhere in Cajun Country !

If you’re heading to the beach, make sure you bring the flippy flops because that sand is gonna roast them hotdog toes ! 🌭

🚢 SHIP WATCHERS:
Today should be a great day to hang around the South Jetty and watch those big, beautiful ships roll through the channel. Just remember, you’ll probably be roasting right along with them!

🎣 FISHING:
Fishing should be GREAT early this morning. Once that afternoon heat settles in, expect the bite to pretty much fall flat until things cool back down around sunset.

Stay hydrated, protect those toes, and enjoy another hot one on the coast!

🎶I wrote this song for all my fellow Beach Bums to listen to while cruising down Padre Island National Seashore with the windows down, sand ahead, and the Gulf beside you.

Hope y’all enjoy it !

It’s available on Spotify, Apple Music, and iHeartRadio if you’d like to download it and take it along on your next beach run.

Have a great day, Beach Bums ! 🤙

🎣 WHY TUESDAY IS A VERY GOOD DAY FOR FISHING

Tuesday, September 8 is shaping up to be a very good fishing day across the Coastal Bend, Beach Bums!

🌊 The biggest reason is the stronger tidal movement.

Tuesday’s tidal coefficient climbs to around 80, which is a big jump from:

• Sunday: 51
• Monday: 66
• Tuesday: 80

That stronger movement can get baitfish moving through the surf guts, cuts, passes, channels and around the jetties. When the groceries start moving, the predators usually are not far behind.

🌕 The falling tide should also help.

With a high tide early in the morning followed by falling water through much of the day, fish may set up around areas where bait gets funneled into deeper water.

Good places to concentrate on:

• Surf cuts
• Deeper guts
• Jetty rocks
• Passes and channels
• Current seams
• Drop-offs

🐟 TUESDAY TARGET SPECIES

• Speckled Trout
• Redfish
• Spanish Mackerel
• Black Drum
• Whiting
• Flounder

🌅 The early morning bite is still my favorite window.

You get:

• Cooler temperatures
• Lower light
• More active bait
• Less beach traffic
• Better odds of finding Trout and Redfish feeding shallow

Once that September heat starts cranking, some fish may slide deeper or become less aggressive.

🎣 BEACH BUM GAME PLAN

• Get your bait in the water early
• Look for bait flipping or birds working
• Fish moving water instead of dead water
• Work deeper guts and cuts as the tide falls
• Keep a silver spoon ready for Trout and Redfish
• Use live shrimp, croaker or mullet if the artificial bite slows down
• If the water is clean, watch for Spanish Mackerel moving through

🟢 TUESDAY BITE RATING: VERY GOOD DAY

Tuesday has the kind of setup I like to see. Stronger tidal movement, more current and more moving bait can all help create better feeding opportunities.

Find the bait.

Find the current.

Find the fish.

🚗⛴️ FERRY & ISLAND TRAFFIC UPDATE

• Ferry wait to Port Aransas: 15 minutes
• Ferry wait to Aransas Pass: 75 minutes
• Highway 361 coming into Park Road 22: Yep... the usual Island backup is alive and well.

Looks like everybody had the same idea today, Beach Bums. If you’re headed this way, pack a little patience, crank up some beach music, and enjoy the crawl.
