Doc's Outfits will now be officially COMPLETE....................

I told you all that this week was about The Searchers and Doc Holliday and today is about Doc 🙂

I am VERY HAPPY to let you all know that I have received the artwork to complete several of Doc's outfits. The first artwork is for the cravat/tie Doc wears with his famous red vest. Having this artwork, I will now be able to complete his entire wardrobe when he confronts Johnny Ringo in the street, you remember, Play For Blood............... 😏 When we finally get around to producing this (I will explain this process in a minute), we will offer the vest, shirt and tie for those of you Docoholics that want the OFFICAL LOOK. The other artwork that I now possess is the artwork for Doc's stripe bib. This strip bib can be pretty much seen throughout the movie as Doc wears this shirt the first time we see him gambling with Ed Baily. He also wears it during the famous cup twirling scene and when he says, "I have two guns, one for each of you".

Now to explain why we are having delays. This comes from orders that keep coming in. When orders come in, Elaine does not have time to make our new product (remember she is the ONLY ONE making our garments). We do this because we don't want you our customers to wait forever on your order, because depending on where your order falls inline, we can wait longer than you already want to. Basically, it's a double edge sword, as we LOVE orders coming in but it also frustrates us that we are not able to move forward like we would like to. Heck, we are still trying to get to everyone's Johnny Ringo shirt. Just remember at the end of the day we are trying our very best to juggle everything to make everyone as happy as we can. It's not a perfect world, but we do what we can do with what we have and what we have is just two people in the company and one (me) doesn't know how to sew.

Just keep in mind that NO ONE wants this stuff more than I do and I am waiting just like everyone of you.

Tall and Skinny.........................................

As I mentioned yesterday in my post, this week is all about The Searchers and Doc Holliday. Well, today I am going to be talking in depth about the Indian scabbard that Ethan Edwards (John Wayne) carries in the movie, so get comfortable and get ready to lean a few things about this scabbard.

Tall and skinny is the title of this post because that is how the scabbard is made, VERY TALL and VERY SKINNY! But why? the answer is because the scabbard was actually made for a musket and NOT an 1892 Wi******er (lever action). In fact, there was NEVER EVER a Wi******er in the scabbard throughout the entire movie. Also, another fact, there was never a real rifle in the scabbard throughout the entire movie. Now before some of you start hammering me with Ethan pulls out his Wi******er and flings the scabbard in one swift move as he charges towards his brother's house (which is on fire), NO HE DOESN'T. What you see is a Hollywood trick. The trick is he pulls out the fake rifle and then when you see Ethan at the house, he has his Wi******er in hand, which your brain tells you that he pulled the Wi******er from the scabbard. I have posted a photo of this scene below and if you look at the rifle you can see that it is a fake.

Now what type of fake rifle are they using in the scabbard throughout the movie? From what I can tell it is a British Pattern 1853 Enfield rifled musket with the hammer and trigger removed. There are two versions of this rifle that I know of, one is a two-band rifle, and one is a three-band rifle. Both rifles look the same except the three-band rifle is a little longer. Mose Harper uses the two-band rifle throughout the movie, and his hammer has also been removed. Now is Duke using the two-band or three-band rifle in the scabbard? In my honest opinion I think he uses the three-band throughout "MOST" of the movie. Why do I think this? TALL and SKINNY 🙂 When Duke sits the rifle stock on the ground, the rifle comes to about his mid chest and he stood 6'4". I also believe that the rifle in the scabbard was modeled off the Enfield, but it was actually just a wooden rifle made to resemble the rifle. Doing this would cut out a lot of weight of the setup which would make it easier to carry in the movie and the way Duke throws this thing around you can just tell there is no weight to it. Now you only notice this after watching the movie a million times like I have done since starting this project. I have also noticed a lot of other things in the movie, but I will save these for a future post.

So, how am I going to make this scabbard? Answer, just like they did for the movie. This means you will get what you see in the movie. I will be making the fake Enfield rifle for my scabbard and if anyone wants one for theirs, I will make you one for an additional cost. Will you be able to put a Wi******er into this scabbard? Answer is NO. Well technically you can, but boy is going to look stupid. For those of you who are going to add this scabbard to your John Wayne collection, if you don't want to purchase the fake rifle from me and you want to make your own, I will give you photos and dimensions from my rifle to make your project a little easier on you.

At the present time I have 95% of all the bead work done for the scabbard and now I am drawing out the pattern for the scabbard. The end of the scabbard where the barrel goes is complete and looks pretty much like what you see in the movie, however I am reworking the end where the rifle actually goes into, as I keep changing things to make it more movie correct. This is me just changing the measurements of things as when they are all drawn out things look a little off, so I have to go back and adjust things, so it is picture perfect 😎

Below you will see photos of what I have talked about in this post and pay close attention to the rifle in the photos..................... 😉 They didn't even take the time to round off the corners of the stock. Also, I had mentioned in my past post that there were at least two different scabbards. When Ethan enters the fort to look at the girls you can see his scabbard is considerably shorter than the one he is carrying on horseback (also in the black & white photo). You can judge this by the distance from the beading under the scabbard (where the fringe ends) to the beading on the other end. The rifle stock doesn't stick out either in this photo, but all the other times the stock sticks out about six inches.

As mentioned before, when you buy something from myself or my team (EJ Leather Works and Ugly Outlaw Hats) you are going to get the most screen accurate wardrobe and props that anyone can make. We all put in a TON of research into our products to insure you get the best of the best.

Well, I hope you enjoyed this post and I hope that you learned more about this scabbard than you ever wanted to know about it....... 😆

Ethan Edwards Knife from The Searchers......................................

I know I did a post here awhile back talking about the knife that John Wayne used in The Searchers but today is a look at how close we are to the original knife and sheath.

If you pay close attention to all the details in both items, you will see that it would be very hard to get any closer to the originals than what we made. We (EJ Leather Works and Hollywood Western Wardrobe ) take GREAT PRIDE in what we make for our customers. No detail goes unnoticed as we spend tons of time and energy making it just as close to the original as you can get.

So, is this post doing a little bragging on our work? You bet your sweet ass it is 😁 This week is going to be dedicated to The Searchers and Val Kilmer's Doc Holliday. Tomorrow I am working on the scabbard from The Searchers and sometime this week I will be cleaning up the knives and getting them sent to EJ Leather Works so he can start making all the sheaths for them. I think the total price for this set is $75 (plus shipping) but you should ask Edward if this is correct. The knives handles will be wrapped in a leather strap just like the original. At the present time there is something like 15 of these knives available so good luck on getting one 🤠

PS. The first two photos of the knife below are of the original screen used knife when it went to auction.

Getting Ready to Leave Town.............

So, my son and I have another show this weekend and we will be taking out tomorrow morning as we are hoping to find some treasures on our way to Wichita KS. Chances are I will not be on Facebook that much until Monday, although I will try to pop in to see if anything big is happening.

I figured that I would let you all in on a BIG SECRET I have been keeping and that is I am working on making the Indian Scabbard that John Wayne uses in the movie The Searchers. My Plans are to sell these to anyone that is wanting one. As I have been working feverishly on this scabbard with the help of my friend Duke (Eric Heisner), I have learned more than I ever thought I would about a rifle scabbard. The things I learned about this particular scabbard just made me shake my head and say, "That's Hollywood". As I revel more about the scabbard in upcoming post, I'm pretty sure a lot of you are going to be pretty shocked 😉

Before anyone ask, I am hoping to sell these scabbards for $500 each plus shipping. I could find only one Searchers scabbard that someone is selling out there on the old interweb, and the scabbard is FAR from being correct and they want $1500 (plus shipping) for the scabbard! I just figured I could make one pretty damn close to what you see in the movie for a LOT BETTER price.

If anyone knows what happened to the original scabbard, I would love to know. I do know that the scabbard was also used in the movie Two Road Together, as it can be seen at the very beginning of the movie. Also, just so everyone knows, the scabbard JW used in the Alamo is NOT the same as the one used in The Searchers.

Well, I hope this project excites some of you, as I know I am getting VERY EXCITED about it............ 🤠

John Wayne True Grit Hat FOR SALE

Are you looking for a John Wayne cowboy hat that won’t break the bank? If so, I just may have something that will interest you 🤠

I am selling a JW True Grit style cowboy hat today. I say style because this hat is missing the binding around the hat brim. Hat is shaped by yours truly, as I did this by looking at a LOT of photos of the original hat.

The hat is a Resistol 4X based cowboy hat in a size 7 1/8. The hat was trimmed and completely reshaped to give it that Rooster Cogburn look. The hat does NOT come with the braided hat band (sorry, but I am keeping this one for my personal hat), however, I can always talk to my friend Duke to see if he will make you one for a price.

Price is $100 plus actual shipping.

John Wayne/Ethan Edwards Searchers Canteen

Let’s stay on the The Searchers for a bit longer as today I have another item from the movie.

What I have here today is the canteen that hangs from John Wayne’s/Ethan Edwards horse, or at least one that looks a lot like it 🤠

I have searched (no pun intended) for this canteen for a VERY LONGTIME and now my search is finally over.

There are no plans to make this as I wouldn’t even know where to find blank canteens to cover in leather 🤔

Just thought you might like to see another piece of my JW collection 🙂

John Wayne/Ethan Edwards Knife from The Searchers update.

These photos below might look like the ones I posted the other day, but I assure you they are completely different. First the knife has been shortened a tad so it will fit into the sheath properly. Next the knife has had a more pointed end on it. The knife still has aways to go but it is getting there.

I made 20 of these knives, so I’m going to be busy for a little bit getting them all prepped to look like the movie knife. These knives (and sheaths will be available to buy here this summer. Hell, if you are going to purchase one you might as well get the rig it belongs on too as this all can be bought from EJ Leather Works as I will be sending him the knives so the sheaths can fit them just like Ethan’s 🤠

Still LOTS more to come, so stay tuned

John Wayne The Searchers Knife

For those of you who watched my video on the CORRECT John Wayne gun belt, you all discovered that we (EJ Leather Works and myself) are making the Searchers Knife and sheath.

Ed over at EJ Leather Works is making the CORRECT sheath and I am in charge of making the knife. Well, today the first knife was made. The knife came out about 95% correct which isn’t to bad for the first try. Tomorrow adjustments will be made to dial this knife in 🤠

There is going to be even more surprises coming from The Searchers here very soon. Basically it’s going to be a Searchers Extravaganza 😎

Yes, we have a YouTube Channel 🤠

It’s pretty crazy to think after all this time I still get asked what YouTube channel?

I HIGHLY SUGGEST that those of you that are new here or for those that don’t follow our YouTube channel to do so, why? Because there are going to be secret information on up coming projects that I will NOT talk about on my pages. Basically you will be getting scoop before anyone on here even knows about it. Also, I will be giving away FREE GIFTS on certain items that are bought from me, and you will only know about this if you follow our channel and watch the videos 🤠

I am posting the video I shot yesterday about the JW gun belt so you know where we are on YouTube 😎

There are SO MANY NEW PROJECTS in the works and I really think all you Docoholics are really going to enjoy seeing them all come together and you may want to even add them to your own collection 😉

John Wayne’s Movie Correct Rig/Gun Belt

It’s finally here, and the good Lord above knows this rig has been in the making for a very longtime.

My very good friend Edward over at EJ Leather Works has really knocked this one into the next county, as a TRUE John Wayne rig has never been made except for the one Duke wore many, many years ago, well until Ed got into the game.

If you want a the low down on this rig, please go over to our YouTube channel and watch the 30 minute video I just posted as you will see and here about another surprise in the video (photo of this little extra surprise is posted below.

There is still more Searchers stuff coming, and coming very soon, so stay on the lookout out for this awesome stuff.

If anyone would like to order the only movie correct JW rig on the planet, please contact Ed over at EJ Leatherworks and he will take care of you. The price of the rig is $350

John Holliday 5-2-26

I really hope you guys check out the video to see this rig in all it’s glory 🤠
