Are Narwhals Real?

Yes! And they're weirder than a myth.

→ That "horn" is actually a tooth. One giant top left canine that pierces through the whale's lip and grows in a spiral. Their only other tooth is hidden in the upper jaw.

→ Even though narwhals have two teeth, they aren't used for eating. Instead, they suck up their food by creating a vacuum with their mouth. Slurrp!

→ "Narwhal" comes from Old Norse for "co**se whale," because sailors thought their mottled gray skin looked like a drowned body floating in the water.

→ They never leave the Arctic. Narwhals never migrate from Arctic waters. Ever. This is why so little is known about these unicorns of the sea.

→ Narwhals are near threatened. Sea ice is melting, habitats are shrinking, and noise from human activity is disrupting their Arctic home.
