And then on Friday it was good...
Good Friday 🙌✝️
After the arrest of Jesus, he was sent to trial. To appease the crowd, Pilate sentenced Jesus to death, making note to the crowd that he was washing his hand of this and that they were condemning an innocent man. The crowd had the choice between Jesus and Barrabas and still chose to send Jesus to be crucified.
They scourged His body with a whip containing pieces of bone and metal. They punched and spit on him. They took off his clothes. They made a crown of thorns to mock him and put it on his head, pushing the thorns into his head to make him bleed. They put a reed in his hands. Jesus was mocked by the soldiers saying, "All hail, the King of the Jews." They hit Him in his head with the reed. Jesus carried the cross to Golgotha. They nailed him to the cross to be crucified.
He hung on the cross, not for His own sins but for the sins of every single one of us. He chose our life over His. His sacrifice so that we could be forgiven of all the wrong that we've ever done. His blood was left on that cross for all of us that day.
While on the cross, Jesus still showed love to those who persecuted him.
Luke 23:34
"Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do."
Matthew 27:46
"And about the ninth hour, Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” that is, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”
Matthew 27:50-54
"And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice and yielded up his spirit. And behold, the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. And the earth shook, and the rocks were split. The tombs also were opened. And many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised, and coming out of the tombs after his resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to many. When the centurion and those who were with him, keeping watch over Jesus, saw the earthquake and what took place, they were filled with awe and said, “Truly this was the Son of God!”
