What a year in costumes. Hard to pick just a few. Couldn’t do what I do without my incredible team (peep that Poseidon costume!)

Little 6 year old Becca sat in her room for hours drawing clothes on lined paper and making Barbie clothes from tissues. She wanted to make pretty things.

46 year old Becca designed four shows in 2025 & over 400 costumes. She still loves making pretty things and making things pretty. 🤩

Grateful for my fellow costume moms (& grandmas) who help me chase my crazy dreams and make the impossible possible, the students who keep me organized, the students who are my canvas, and a director who lets me soar.

Goal for 2026: document MORE. More before & afters, more step by step, and maybe some tutorials.

Grand total on all of this is under $200 and can all be purchased from Walmart. Whenever someone tells me they want to start sewing I tell them to buy these items.

1. Janome signature charm sewing machine: simple, minimal settings, no computer, $140
2. Decent fabric scissors. If you wanna get fancy a large pair & tiny pair
3. Disappearing ink pen. Great for tracing, marking, etc.
4. Extra needles. I promise you can use any brand, they are universal.
5. Plenty of pins.
6. Pre wound bobbins. When I’m seeing costumes and exact thread matching isn’t crucial, I use these. They save soooo much time.

I adore this machine! I’ve been sewing about 20 years and used some high end machines. This is the one I reach for the most because it’s so simple.

Not me breaking into tears in the middle of decorating the tree.

Our tradition is to put the ornaments on the big tree with the night after Thanksgiving. With three boys we’ve collected quite a stash of ornaments over the years. My husband and I put the hooks on and the boys hang them on the tree. WHEREVER THEY WANT.

There’s something magical that happens when you open a box of treasures that’s been collected over the years. Each little trinket, even the homemade preschool foam ones, have a memory attached.

It hit me this year that one day they won’t all be here for this. The slow steady grief that comes with your children growing up is not a part of motherhood I ever expected.

But leave it to the youngest one to say “ don’t worry Mom, I’m gonna have a bunch of kids and bring them back here” 🩷

Slightly: The leader of The Lost Boys, Peter Pan’s faithful sidekick. Confident, lovable, and a team player.

For the Lost Boys in this musical, we focused on an earthy color palette notes with rugged, worn-out touches of fur, leather, and twigs—imagine little boys with remnants of their old clothes, now survival gear in Neverland.
