The new portraits of the former President and First Lady have been unveiled, by Kehinde Wiley and Amy Sherald, respectively. Mrs. Obama's dress was designed by Michelle Smith of Milly and was inspired partly by Gee's Bend quilters!

This Barack Obama Is No Mr. Nice Guy. Kehinde Wiley’s portrait of the former president contradicts the impression he often made in office of being detached.

A friend of mine in Atlanta is seeing this exhibit today. Ms. Stephens has stated, “The long process (of quilting) allows me time to travel to some of the sweetest places in my memories, like the quilting parties I enjoyed as a little girl.
