Well, it’s been a hot minute, but here’s a quick peek at the finished photo shoot for my “manhole cover” creations. What a blessing to be invited to participate in this.
These were rubbings created over a lifetime of travel by professor Carroll Schleppi. They were gifted to my friend Tracy's Sewing Studio LLC Tracy McElfresh who put together this collaboration. The assignment: create something interesting out of these rubbings.
I immediately had the first outfit in mind… the black linen jacket and pants combo. The jacket is made out of a circle, including a shawl collar as the top of the circle, and the swing back style creating the large expanse of fabric to hold the manhole cover. The pants are a barrel style, low slung waistband-less slouch style, and the legs are actually sort of circular in the pattern. All of these rubbings come from Hamburg Germany. Huge thanks to Meesha Kay TheLazyPhotographer who is the model, totally slaying this outfit!
The second outfit was another immediate reaction in my brain, to take these rubbings and organize by size, and create a dress with a skirt full enough to hold six different rubbings. I’ll be honest, this dress is not quite complete. There are two more large rubbings that go on the back, and then a bunch of black crinoline to go underneath and hold out the skirt. But I loved this magenta fabric, it has amazing movement and body. All the rubbings on this dress are from all over Europe: London, France, Germany and more. Massive thank to Michie Michael who absolutely knows how to rock a swinging dress, plus Michie was our photographer for the day!
I’ll reshoot both of these outfits when totally complete

Finally, the beautiful Turkish coat was fashioned by Tracy McElfresh Tracy's Sewing Studio LLC, and is modeled by Andria Hahn Misutka Andria Misutka.

What a great event, and I’m just so proud to have been a part if it!!

Thank you all for your encouraging words!!! Of course, I made it to the finish line with two projects ready to be worn! ...

Thank you all for your encouraging words!!! Of course, I made it to the finish line with two projects ready to be worn! Now, if I’m honest, they’re not DONE done, but I’m not telling what isn’t finished here. Suffice to say, I’ll be doing a second photo shoot in July, with everything completed. Anyway, suuuuuper happy with how it all went down!

Huge thanks to Tracy's Sewing Studio LLC , Tracy McElfresh who put the whole project together. And also thanks to my models, the fabulous Michie Michael in the magenta dress (who was also our skilled photographer for the day), and my brand new gorgeous friend Meesha Kay Meesha Kay in my black linen jacket and pants TheLazyPhotographer.

Finally, props to Andria Hahn Misutka Andria Hahn who modeled for Tracy in the quilted Turkish coat. Oh, and I would be remiss if I didn’t honor Caroll Schleppi who did all of the original rubbings all over the world!

What a blast!! Professional photos to come tomorrow, as I just haven’t had time to sort through all the almost 300 of them.

Happy Mother’s Day!

This was my mom’s charm bracelet, which I inherited. The woman who taught me everything I know about sewing! I love having this bracelet to remember her by!

Finally getting around to posting my Booth at the Dayton Bridal Expo!!!

Surprisingly, I think I was the ONLY booth having anything to do with wedding wardrobe! I couldn’t believe it, no other salons, no tuxedo places, no alterations specialists! Just l’il ol’ me!
My booth was hopping!! I had so many visitors, so many great conversations about dresses and other wedding wardrobe choices, for both men and women!

And a huge thank you to for coming and being my LIVE model for the booth!

Very exciting!

Oooo!!! I’m so excited to be participating in this collaboration!
Myself and two other sewists, creating fashions out of these very cool manhole rubbings and other architectural rubbings. Just such a cool project!
I’ll keep you informed of my progress!
